A graduate in Radio-TV-Film from the University of Texas at Austin, Robert joined Spelling Entertainment in 1994 as assistant to the president, then went on to serve as Supervisor, Series Programming & Feature Films, working on such hits as Beverly Hills, 90210, Melrose Place, 7th Heaven, and The Usual Suspects. In 1997, Zimmer became a television writer-producer with credits on Spelling's Sunset Beach, where he wrote over 80 episodes and was nominated for a Writers' Guild of America Award. After a stint as development executive at Paramount's Big Ticket (Moesha, Judge Judy), Zimmer added film to his portfolio when he co-wrote the feature script Here We Are Now, Entertain Us with Oscar nominee Dan Petrie, Jr. In 2001 he co-produced and co-wrote his first produced feature, Thank You, Good Night, directed by Chuck Griffith and starring JP Pitoc, Christian Campbell, and Mark Hamill.
