411 Games Fact or Fiction 12.13.12: Black Ops 2, BioShock Infinite, Walking Dead and More
Welcome to another week of Fact or Fiction. This week, I’m taking over as temporary host as Daniel Anderson is away on business.
However, before he left he left a list to go up against Dan Watson. Let’s see how these two do. Time for banner!
1.) It was no surprise to see Black Ops 2 top the November NPDs.
Daniel Anderson – Fact: I fully expected this to occur. Sure, we had Assassin’s Creed and Halo 4 both release the same month, but, for better or worse, it is a given that right now any Call of Duty game is going to top the NPD’s of their release month right now. When we get the next wave of consoles this could change, but we will just have to wait and see.
Dan Watson – Fact: With all the press, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Black Ops on the December NPD as the leader. This series always sells a ton and people always complain. I’m not at all surprised that it led sales in November.
Score: 1 for 1 – Any other month and Halo 4 would have probably won it. How-ever, Call of Duty is just as huge of a franchise as ever, and Black Ops 2 continues to show just how big it actually is.
2.) You are surprised to hear that Bioshock Infinite has been delayed another month.
Daniel Anderson – Fact: I thought the delay until Feb 2013 was supposed to be enough to finish and polish the game. Granted, a single month delay isn’t bad, but it does raise some flags to me. I will be curious to see if this game ends up being as good as expected, or just a bug filled disaster (think Skyrim on PS3).
Dan Watson – Fiction: This game is probably going to get delayed again I’m sure. It’s pure size makes it a given its going to be delayed several times until it hits the holiday season or next generation of consoles. Visually, this game may be too huge for what the 360 can do. Either way, not surprised at all that this was delayed.
Score: 1 for 2 – Considering what I’ve been hearing from friends that checked it out last week, there should be nothing to worry about as Irrational Games just wants to put a bit more polish on the world.
3.) You have no problem with The Walking Dead winning the VGA GOTY award.
Daniel Anderson – Fact: I think it is a good choice for GOTY. I would have given my vote to either Skyrim (for the epic scale of the game), The Walking Dead (great story and a fun game), or Dishonored (great game that no one expected to be as good as it was). Any of those three I would be fine seeing get GOTY honors.
Dan Watson – Fact: I have no problem with a game that sells well and was well liked by almost everyone winning game of the year. I am actually pretty happy with this. It’s better than Call of Duty or Halo or any other sequel getting it. At least the game was unique and different.
Score: 2 for 3 – I have no problem with Walking Dead winning just because of its storytelling and emotional elements. It’s not how I voted for the GOTY coming up on 411Mania, but I can definitely see its draw.
4.) You are looking forward to TEW 2013.
Dan Watson – Fiction: Count me in a group that was totally unaware of what TEW was. I feel like an idiot, next question.
Daniel Anderson – Fact: I am a big fan of the TEW series. I enjoy these games as a fun way to relax and take out my frustrations at the current state of wrestling today. This game (with user mods if you so choose) lets you be in charge of your favorite wrestling federation. Want to see Cena turn heel? With the right user mods you can. Want to rebook the Invasion? With the right user mod you can. Don’t get me wrong though. The universe that the creator of the game has is great as well. I generally have one game going with a WWE mod and one in the default universe. When this is released I will probably be playing it, and no other game, for a while.
Score: 2 for 4 – I’ve never played TEW, and don’t know if I ever will. I don’t mind playing WWE once in a while, but I’m not a huge wrestling game fan.
5.) You agree with League of Legends permanently banning a pro player for, “tendency to engage in verbal abuse and insults, his lack of cordial demeanor, and his treatment of less skilled players.”
Dan Watson – Fact: I’m tired of these “pro” players thinking that they are amazing at manipulating a computer program and feeling entitled to treating people like garbage. Get a job you assholes. Alright, now that that is out of me, I think gaming needs to go a bit more peaceful and less trash talking to strangers.
Daniel Anderson – Fact: Hell yes. I love seeing people get banned for being assholes. Don’t get me wrong, a little trash talk is fine and expected, but when people spend an entire match and post-match in a game running their mouth about how great they are and how bad their opponent is, swearing all the time, it gets old. It gets old very fast. Again, I am not saying someone shouldn’t be allowed to gloat a little, but everyone has seen it taken to extremes. Banning the people who are making the game less enjoyable for everyone is an awesome move and I hope other games follow suit.
Score: 3 for 5 – If you’re going to be a pro player, I feel there should be another level of professionalism that you should be held to. So, if you’re going to belittle and verbally abuse other players, maybe you should reconsider what’s coming out of your mouth because you aren’t only a player now, you’re a pro that is one of the faces repre-senting the company.
6.) With the Killer Instinct trademark not being renewed, we will never see a new Killer Instinct game.
Dan Watson – Fiction: It was a technicality that forced it to be “non-renewed.” I would bet within the next generation of gaming we see a new Killer Instinct title. Creators are not creative enough to come up with an original title so eventually we will see it. Perfect Dark was a launch for 360, maybe KI will launch with the next console.
Daniel Anderson – Fact: I think something will get worked out and the trademark will be renewed. That being said, I still don’t think we will see a new Killer Instinct game. At most I think we will see a XBLA version like the Ninja Turtles Arcade Game. Unless that version sold a ton of copies (and I don’t think it would sell enough to make Microsoft happy), we will not see a new Killer Instinct.
Score: 3 for 6 – Since we brought this up, I’ll make a crazy claim. The Killer In-stinct trademark will not only be renewed, but KI3 will be a launch title for Durango. That’d be a heck of an announcement next year, wouldn’t it?
Bonus Question) What game in 2013 are you looking forward to the most?
Dan Watson – Grand Theft Auto
V: I think this will be a fun game like the previous installments with added multiplayer and extra fun.
Daniel Anderson – Deadpool: Right now I think I am looking forward more to the Deadpool game than anything else. I have been a fan of Deadpool for almost 10 years now. I remember when you could say his name and no one would know who you were talking about. All of the videos I have seen makes me think this game is going to capture the spirit of the character (having the writer of the game be the same person who wrote Deadpool comics helps a lot), and if the gameplay is just not broken it will be a fun game. There will be bigger releases in 2013, but right now Deadpool is what I am looking forward to the most.
Adam Larck – BioShock Infinite: I was a huge fan of the first game and was a bit disappointed by the second. However, now that the game is back in Irrational Games’ hands, it’s shaping up to be another great title like the first. Sure, I know GTA V is coming out, but I think this single player experience will sink its claws into me much more than GTA will.
Bonus Question) Phantom Pain really is Metal Gear Solid V?
Dan Watson – Fact: I think the code name is perfect for the series and makes a ton of sense. What do you think Adam…?
Daniel Anderson – Fact: I would say, at this point, yes it is Metal Gear Solid V. I think we will see a few more teases of Phantom Pain (it was really hard not to type Phantom Limb there…GO TEAM VENTURE), and then at E3 get the full announcement.
Adam Larck – Fact: All signs seem to point to yes. Konami’s reps wouldn’t officially tell me much, but the writing was on the walls (or their T-shirts) at the VGA after party. I look for an official announcement either at Sony or Microsoft’s E3 presser, or possibly even delayed until the Tokyo Game Show, depending if it will be a launch title or exclusive to anyone.
The pair finish this week going 3-for-6. What do you think? Agree or disagree with their answers? Let us know. See you in seven!
