Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night Cancelled On Wii U, But Not Nintendo Switch
In an update on its official Kickstarter page, game director Koji “IGA” Igarashi revealed that Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night will not be released on the Wii U but will instead debut on the Nintendo Switch. The game is considered a spiritual successor to Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, with Igarashi also directed.
He wrote: “During our Kickstarter campaign [in 2015], the Wii U was at the height of its popularity, but the situation has drastically changed after the release of Nintendo Switch. This change made it difficult to receive the necessary support from the hardware maker, which has led us to drop the Wii U development and shift the development to Nintendo Switch. We are very sorry that it has come to this after all your support, but we hope you will understand.”
Backers can choose a different version of the game (it’s also being released on the PC, PS4, Xbox One and Vita). If you picked the Wii U version and want the Switch version, you don’t have to do anything. The Wii U port was only planned when it hit its $3 million goal. The game ultimately hit $5.5 million.
