Which indie games are the best ones to get on xbox?
Posted By: Guest#1276 (Guest) on June 18, 2012 at 02:20 PM
Sadly, I have fallen out of the Xbox Indie scene over the last couple of months, largely due to finishing my undergraduate degree and a slew of new responsibilities. That being said, I can give you some of my favorite indie games that I have purchased.
Arkedo Series – 01 JUMP! is a strange little platformer that is challenging and addicting. You’ll traverse through complex levels with traps and multiple paths in pursuit of collecting gold coins. Collect all of the coins and you’ll finish the level. I’d highly suggest checking this title out if you’re into platforming games and enjoy stylized pixel art.
Breath of Death VII: The Beginning is a popular old-school role playing game parody that pokes fun at all of the genre’s major tropes, along with a ton of funny moments. The battle system is reminiscent of the original NES RPGs and goes a long way in legitimizing the indie channel.
DLC Quest is a short, albeit humorous platformer that points out how ridiculous some of the DLC we purchase can be. The game starts out with no sound, no jumping, and you can only go right. To unlock these features you’ll have to collect coins and purchase DLC packs, including the ending of the game. It’ll take you around thirty minutes to complete, but it’s a fun trip.
You’ve probably already heard of I MAED A GAM3 W1TH Z0MB1ES!!!1, but this dollar twin-stick shooter is worth every penny. A variety of enemies and weapons keep things fresh, while the soundtrack is worth the price of admission alone. Local multiplayer makes things even more hectic, so this is a must have if you have a friend to play with.
A curiously addicting gem is found in Miner Dig Deep, where you’re tasked with digging your own mine. You’ll collect upgrades and find rarer and more precious metals as you dig deeper, but you have to think two steps ahead in this puzzle-platformer. The game has very simple graphics but don’t let them fool you – there’s much more to the game than meets the eye.
That should leave you with enough games to last a week. I supposed it could be worth going back and reviewing an indie game or two with each issue. Let me know if you’d be interested in seeing that in the comments below, especially if you have any requests you’d like me to review.
Welcome everyone to another issue of the Living LIVE News Report, and as always, I’m your host for the evening, Trace Aber. I’ve been playing the Batman Arkham City GOTY Edition over the last week and a half and it’s been incredible. I somehow managed to skip out on Arkham Asylum, so everything is complete new to me. I’ll be having a review up later this week.
BioWare Announces Release Date for Mass Effect 3 Extended Ending DLC
One of the biggest controversies in gaming this year finally comes to what many are hoping a more satisfying end tomorrow, June 26, as BioWare releases the Extended Cut DLC. The file comes in at 1.9 gigabytes, and the company announced the release randomly just four days prior to release. While it will not fundamentally change the endings, the DLC “expands on the endings of Mass Effect 3 through additional scenes and epilogue sequences. It provides more of the answers and closure that players have been asking for. It gives a sense of what the future holds as a result of the decisions made throughout the series. And it shows greater detail in the successes or failures based on how players achieved their endings.”
In order to see the new content you’ll have to go back about an hour before the game’s original ending, right before the attack on the Cerberus Base. Rumor has it that the content is about 10 minutes in length, but there are multiple variations of each decision, adding up to a lot of content.
This DLC comes off the heels of a months-long controversy that included fans filing a petition to have the ending changed among other things, and BioWare has to be worried about the reaction. From the interviews I’ve read it seems like Casey Hudson (main story writer) can’t fathom the idea that fans wouldn’t enjoy the ending, and that we should have filled in all of the story gaps using our imagination. That doesn’t work for a 90-hour epic trilogy, however.
People seem to be keeping expectations low, but I’m more than excited. New Mass Effect content is more than enough motivation to download it, and 10 minutes is a decent amount of time to fix some of the most glaring plotholes. I hope for BioWare’s sake that this ending goes over better, otherwise the internet might implode.
Random News and Notes
-The Doom 3 BFG Edition will come not only with updated graphics of Doom 3, but also contain the full versions of Doom 1 and Doom 2, along with seven new Doom 3 levels plus expansions. It’ll be released in October for $39.99.
-Earlier this week a system update was released over Xbox LIVE that is there largely to make a much larger update later this Fall.
-Upcoming Sega brawler Anarchy Reigns will release in early 2013 for the discounted price of $29.99.
-Bit of disappointing news for Saints Row: The Third fans out there. The planned Enter the Dominatrix expansion pack has been cancelled and will instead be “incorporated into a vastly expanded, full-fledged sequel, scheduled for calendar 2013.”
-Strange news for players of Fez. A patch was released earlier this week to fix some of the game’s larger glitches, but developer Polytron soon found out that game saves were becoming corrupted, forcing players to completely restart the game. Microsoft has since removed the patch, and Polytron stated they hope to have a fix “in less than two months.” Well, they’re honest at least.
–Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm 3 will be released sometime next year for the Xbox 360.
-The puzzle game Quantum Conundrum will release on XBLA come July 11 for 1200MP. The game’s designer was also the project lead on Portal, and early reviews seem to be positive.
