New Audio Plug Used in Xbox One Controller

Now that it’s been announced that the Xbox One won’t come with a headset, not having 360 headsets work on the system have become even more of a problem.

However, Game Informer recently found out the reasoning behind why 360 headiest won’t work on an Xbox One controller.

“The Wireless Controller has been redesigned to allow for higher data transfer speed between the controller and the console,” Microsoft stated. “This also required creating a new expansion port design for headsets and future controller add-on devices which is different from a standard audio plug input.”

The company added that it “plans to develop solutions in the near future to allow consumers to connect many brands of wired gaming headsets to the Wireless Controller for gaming and chat audio.”

I would have to guess that if a plan isn’t developed before the system launches, companies like Nyko will be capitalizing on that area quickly.
