[PODCAST] D&D5e Actual Play – Eberron: Heirs of Destiny 04

Welcome back to Eberron!

So now that we’re in a post-Seth-drowning-people-in-sewer-water era, let’s talk about character choices. Quite often in roleplaying games we make decisions partially based on our character, and partially based on tactical decisions or suggestions from the group. Neither of those are bad reasons to make a choice, but when you make choices that are based on aspects of your character they can sometimes come across as strange or – in my case – psychotic.

Part of being entertaining is being unexpected; If we know what’s going to happen, and how it’s going to happen then why are we partaking of our entertainment? To that end, whenever I create a character I try to take a concept that may be familiar or fun to me, and then shift it slightly. In the case of Seth, I took a charming disney-esque rogue archetype ala Aladdin or Flynn Rider, made him a killing machine, and emotionally attached him to a sibling that he would do anything for.

This resulted in him drowning the person that severely injured his brother in sewer water.

So, look forward to more exciting antics as we continue our story – and please enjoy!
