The Secret World Makes Subscription Fee Vanish

December 12, 2012 | Posted by Adam Larck

The Secret World is joining the ranks of other MMO games to get rid of the subscription model.

Funcom announced today that the MMO will now just require a base purchase to play.

“With this recent change there is no reason not to join and take part in ‘The Secret World,'” said Game Director Joel Bylos in a prepared statement. “Most players end up having a ton of fun once they delve into the myths and legends of ‘The Secret World,’ and we believe the game has the potential to be even more successful without the subscription entry barrier. It is an ambitious and very exciting move for us.”

However, to keep making money, Funcom has introduced new Membership options. The options add bonuses like a Time Accelerator item that gives double XP an hour each day, $10 worth of bonus points monthly and a discount on in-game items. All this will cost $15 a month, the initial subscription price.

Grand Master Lifttime members get everything listed above, plus a 20 percent discount on in-game items. Option DLC packs will be able to purchase for $5 starting in January. However, the first pack will be free to gamers that register by Dec. 30.
