What is the Fate of Darksiders in THQ Assets Auction?
Polygon reports that Platinum Games has expressed informal interest in buying the Darksiders game series.
As of January 23 after the THQ asset auction, Darksiders was one of the several game franchises which had not been purchased.
Platinum Games executive director and producer Atsushi Inaba joked on Twitter that he would be interested in the series. He stated, “Oh man, in THQ’s big sale it looks like nobody’s bought Darksiders… I’d love to buy that (if it was cheap).”
It is unclear if Platinum Games will make a bid for the series. Platinum does appear to be recruiting Vigil developers who worked on the series now that it is closing.
Platinum Games writer and translator JP Kellams made a more direct offer to Vigil Games through former lead designer Haydn Dalton. He stated, “If anyone is interested in working with/at Platinum let me know how to get ahold of you via DM.”
Darksiders 2 was released in 2012 on Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii U and PC. Platinum Games released Anarchy Reigns on Xbox 360 and PS3. They are currently working on Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance and Wii U Exclusives The Wonderful 101 and Bayonetta 2.
