Welterweight-tourney opening round bout: Andrey Koreshkov (170.8lbs 10-0) vs. Jordan Smith (169.8lbs 17-3-1)

ROUND ONE: The fighters circle and clash. Smith keeps up the pressure and comes forward. He shoots but Koreshkov stuffs him. Koreshkov lands a few hard shots to Smiths face. He’s picking his spots and tagging Smith at will. Smith for his part is withstanding the attack. Spinning side kick from Smith finds the mark. Koreshkov shoots but Smith goes for a Peruvian Neck Tie! They scramble and Smith goes for a guillotine. Koreshkov defends and ends up in guard. Smith uses the rubber guard. Koreshkov peppers Smith with ground and pound. A left hand nearly KO’s Smith while he’s already on his back.

SCORECARD: Koreshkov 10-9

ROUND TWO: Smith lands a big right hand and follows with a single leg. Smith immediately takes his back and looks for the rear-naked choke. Koreshkov attempts to punch his way out of danger. Smith locks in the RNC! Koreshkov tucks his chin to defend. Koreshkov turns around into the guard of Smith. Koreshkov looks to pass Smith’s guard. Koreshkov stacks Smith against the cage. Big up-kick from Smith. They end round 2 like round 1.

SCORECARD: Smith 10-9

ROUND THREE: The fighters throw some jabs and feints before Smith tries for the single leg. Koreshkov blocks the takedown. Koreshkov lands a hard right and left. Smith comes back with some hard punches of his own. Wizzer from Koreshkov blocks the advances from Smith. Both fighters are finding the mustard leaving their power strikes as fatigue sets in. This is a fairly back and forth affair. Koreshkov continues to land the lion share of power strikes. Smith trips over himself backing up. Koreshkov buries his head in Smith’s chest and takes him down.

SCORECARD: Koreshkov 10-9

OFFICIAL RESULT: WINNER – Andrey Koreshkov by unanimous decision (29-28X3).

Welterweight-tourney opening round bout: Michail Tsarev (171lbs 23-2) vs. Tim Welch (170.4lbs 9-3)

ROUND ONE: Welch comes out swinging for the fences. He’s all up in Tsarev’s face. Tsarev tries for an inside trip. Tsarev gets some good knees while in the clinch. Tsarev staggers Welch for a moment. Tsarev finally gets the inside trip. Tsarev tries for a guillotine! Welch escapes! Welch eats an illegal upkick and time is called. Apparently Tsarev didn’t know (although he should have) that you can’t kick the head of a grounded opponent. Welch recovers and we resume. Welch eats a perfectly legal punch in the face. Tsarev takes Welch down again. Tsarev goes for another guillotine. Welch defends but Tsarev transitions to a triangle. Welch gets away and almost eats another up kick.

SCORECARD: Tsarev 10-9

ROUND TWO: Tsarev lands a hard kick. Welch misses with the counter. Welch is unwilling to grapple on the ground as Tsarev attempts to pull guard, twice. Tsarev gets a takedown and immediately takes Welch’s back. He finishes him off with an RNC.

OFFICIAL RESULT: WINNER – Michail Tsarev by submission (rear-naked choke) at 1:57 of round 2.

Welterweight-tourney opening round bout: Nordine Taleb (170.8lbs 8-1) vs. Marius Zaromskis (170.8lbs 18-6-0, 1NC)

ROUND ONE: Zaromskis comes forward quickly but he’s being chipped at by kicks from Taleb. Taleb circles away from Zaromskis’ power strikes. Leg kick from Zaromskis. Taleb appears to tagging Zaromskis but he gets whacked right back with a spinning back fist. Zaromskis pounces on Taleb! Zaromskis takes his back. Taleb stands up but Zaromskis stays with him and clubs him a few time before Taleb is able to break away. Zaromskis continues to walk Taleb down. Zaromskis tries and fails for a takedown. Taleb tries to keep Zaromskis away with jabs. They clinch with Taleb’s back pushed against the fence.

SCORECARD: Zaromskis 10-9

ROUND TWO: Taleb is picking Zaromskis apart but Zaromskis clobbers him! Taleb is flattened as Zaromskis moves in for the kill. Taleb is able to escape and they resume their kickboxing match. Taleb has been able to easily outstrike Zaromskis in terms of volume. Zaromskis ties him up agains the fence. He gets him down but Taleb pops back up. The ref breaks them up. Another head kick from Taleb but it is blocked.

SCORECARD: Zaromskis 10-9

ROUND THREE: The fighters slug it out to start the third round. Zaromskis clinches again but the ref breaks them up. Zaromskis is looking for another knock down but Taleb continues to circle away. Taleb tries a takedown but is stuffed. Zaromskis transitions to his back. Zaromskis hits a belly to back suplex! Zaromskis is in side control. The ref stands them up. Zaromskis kicks Taleb square in the face! He tries for a spinning back fist but that allows Taleb to recover and tackle him to end the round.

SCORECARD: Zaromskis 10-9

OFFICIAL RESULT: WINNER – Marius Zaromskis by unanimous decision (30-27, 29-28X2).

Welterweight-tourney opening round bout: Lyman Good (170.2lbs 12-2) vs. Jim Wallhead (169.8lbs 24-6)

ROUND ONE: Good charges Wallhead to start. They take it around the fence and back to the center. Good continues to press forward against Wallhead. Good nails a few good uppercuts. Wallhead is cut. The fighters stay tied up in the clinch. They exchange short, hard punches and knees. Another exchange of knees and uppercuts. Overhand right from Wallhead. Another exchange of strikes ends the right. Very even round.

SCORECARD: Good 10-9

ROUND TWO: They clash again as Good pushes Wallhead back into the fence. Good comes forward and lights up Wallhead with uppercuts, jabs and straights. Wallhead looks to fire back. Leg kick from Good. Good keeps up the pressure. There’s a mouse under the eye of Wallhead. Another straight right lands from Good. Wallhead keeps getting smashed every time he tries to come forward. Good is landing a lot of leg kicks. Good clinches and finishes the round with an uppercut.

SCORECARD: Good 10-9

ROUND THREE: Wallhead does his best to get off first and get something going for himself. However, Good repels him back with knees and jabs. We have “numbnuts” as Good kicks Wallhead in the nuts. Sigh. Wallhead throws a flurry, all of which is blocked. Wallhead tries for a takedown but Good stuffs him. Knees and shoulder strikes in the clinch from Good. Good stays stuck to Wallhead like glue, keeping up his violent but successful pace. Good tries for a takedown but Wallhead stays up, forcing Good to push him into the cage. Good goes for one last flurry and proceeds to lose a point via knee to the crotch.

SCORECARD: Draw 9-9 due to point reduction for Good

OFFICIAL RESULT: WINNER – Lyman Good by unanimous decision (29-27X3) .
