411’s Invicta FC 14 Report 9.12.15

September 13, 2015 | Posted by Robert Winfree

Hello everyone and thanks for following along with Invicta FC 14 coverage. I’m Robert Winfree and I’ll be relaying all the action to you guys just as I see it. We were supposed to have Tonya Evinger’s first ever bantamweight title defense tonight, then her opponent missed weight so instead it’s a non-title affair. The co-main event has former Invicta strawweight champion Katia Kankaanpaa returning to action after losing her belt against undefeated DeAnna Bennett and one has to imagine the winner is right back in the title mix, plus Roxanna Modafferi is fighting and she’s almost always good for a fun fight. Tonight’s card comes to the world from Kansas City, Missouri with Invicta FC matchmaker Julie Kedzie and TJ De Santis on commentary.

Both Rachel Wiley and Felicia Spencer are making their professional debuts tonight, Invicta usually has a couple of professional debutantes on their cards and tonight is no different. Both women have some amateur experience under their belts so hopefully this isn’t too sloppy.

Lightweight Bout: Rachel Wiley (0-0, 155 lbs.) vs. Felicia Spencer (0-0, 155.3 lbs.)

ROUND ONE: Touch of gloves to get things going then Wiley lands a couple of punches and we’ve got some trading in the clinch. Spencer gets Wiley on the fence, Wiley circles out and lands a bit of a right hand. Spencer lands a couple of knees in the clinch then starts looking for a takedown. Spencer gets Wiley down into half guard, Wiley has a pretty good hematoma on her forehead from an accidental clash of heads that’s going to be worth keeping an eye on. Spencer working some rights to the face while trying to pass the half guard. Spencer passes to side control and starts looking for elbows and punches. Spencer nearly has the mounted crucifix and keeps landing elbows. Wiley trying to walk up the fence but she’s getting hit a lot. More elbows from Spencer and a couple of knees to the body. Spencer with some more punches and the ref waves this one off.

OFFICIAL RESULT: †WINNER – Felicia Spencer via TKO, punches and elbows, at 3:32 of Round 1

That hematoma is pretty nasty, no interview for Spencer but a nearly flawless debut.

Aspen Ladd is unbeaten as a professional, her first professional fight was under the Invicta banner and she won via TKO in the first round and tonight looks to remain perfect as a professional. Also unbeaten is Amanda Cooper at 1-0 but she has 11 amateur fights to her credit and tonight makes her Invicta debut looking to stay unbeaten and make a positive impression on the fans and officials.

Impressive performance from Ladd, she’s someone to watch going forward. No interview for Ladd, I imagine only main card fights are going to get interviews.

JJ Aldrich has only fought in Invicta and is coming off of a loss to Jamie Moyle and looks to return to the winning side of things. Rosa Acevedo took this fight on short notice, probably contributed to her missing weight, and will be looking for an impressive win to compensate for missing weight in her Invicta debut.

She says that while Kankaanpaa might be small she’s strong and tough and incredibly game, then says that she understands the fans who saw the fight going the other way but she plans on coming back and being better. She says she’s unsure which weight class she’ll settle in and says there were a lot of external issues for this camp, then puts over her coach.

What in the world were those judges watching?

Well that at least makes sense.

This fight was supposed to be for the Invicta bantamweight title but both women missed weight on their initial attempt. Evinger made weight on her second attempt, a miss would have resulted in her being stripped of the belt, but Kianzad didn’t so this is now a non title affair. Evinger is riding a seven fight winning streak, including her last fight when she won the vacant bantamweight title and looks to continue the winning streak tonight. Pannie Kianzad is unbeaten as a professional including her Invicta debut and as mentioned this was to be a title fight, but a non-title win over the champ could set up another title opportunity down the line.
