Catchweight Bout (175.8): Nah-Shon Burrell (175.8)* vs. Yuri Villefort (170)

ROUND ONE: Burrell fires off a right first. They slug it out in the center. Villefort takes him down. Villefort takes his back. Villefort goes for a rear-naked choke! Burrell defends but Villefort is sticking with it. Burrell gets back to his feet and escapes the clutches of Villefort. Villefort slips but Burrell lets him back up. Hard left from Burrell. Shot to the body and leg kick in response from Villefort. Villefort slips throwing a kick. Burrell fires off a combo and takes a leg kick. Villefort is caught and smashed to the canvas Burrell pounces on him! Villefort recovers and reverses position. Burrell escapes and smashes Villefort again! Villefort is eating some nasty punches.

SCORECARD: Burrell 10-9

ROUND TWO: They exchange strikes in the center of the cage. Big body shot and kick from Villefort. There’s another exchange and Burrell drops him again. He doesn’t pursue, opting to keep it standing. Villefort fires off some hard strikes. Vicious uppercut from Burrell connect. Head kick from Villefort followed by a hook to the body. Villefort eats a straight right. Right connects flush from Villefort. Villefort continues to connect with the right. Burrell connects with a right hook and we’re off to the third round.

SCORECARD: Burrell 10-9

ROUND THREE: Burrell leads in significant strikes at 72. Villefort takes him down and gets his back. Burrell rolls through, defends and gets back to his feet. Hard right from Burrell. Villefort lunges at Burrell and tackles him. Villefort rolls for a heel hook but that opens him up to Burrell pummeling him about the face. It’s close to being stopped! Villefort gives up the position and Burrell tries for a guillotine. He let’s it go. Villefort tries for another takedown but Burrell tries for a standing guillotine. Villefort defends. They are stalled in the clinch against the fence. Villefort tries for final takedown but Burrell stuffs it. FRONT KICK TO THE FACE!! VIlefort is still standing! Villefort tries to drag Burrell to the mat. They slug it out until the end.

SCORECARD: Burrell 10-9

OFFICIAL RESULT: WINNER – Nah-Shon Burrell by unanimous decision (30-27, 29-28X2).

Welterweight Bout: Neil Magny (171) vs. Jon Manley (171)

ROUND ONE: Both fighters come out trying to find their distance, flicking jabs at each other. Magny takes him down but Manley gets to his feet. Manley attempts to take Magny down again. They grapple against the fence. Manley picks Magny up and puts him down but Magny is easily able to get back to his feet. Manley goes to the body against the fence. Magny reverses position and hits Manley. Manley circles out but eats a punch. Magny lands a kick. Manley attempts another takedown but Magny shrugs him off.

SCORECARD: Magny 10-9

ROUND TWO: They exchange in the center of the cage until Manley rushes forward and pushes Magny against the fence. Magny finally goes to the ground. Manley is in side control. Magny reverses and now he’s in side control. Magny gets to his feet. They continue to fight in the clinch. Magny finally opens up and lands a hard elbow. Magny takes him down and lands in side control. Manly defends and both fighters stand in the clinch against the fence. Magny clobbers Manley against the fence. The roll on the ground and Manley pushes Magny to guard. Magny takes his back.

SCORECARD: Magny 10-9

ROUND THREE: Manley lands a nice uppercut. Magny counters. Magny takes him down. Magny gets to side control. Manley goes for an armbar! Magny defends but still has his arm trapped. Magny pulls it free and pounds on Manley. Manley gives up his back. Manley slips away. Not enough action for Herb Dean so they are stood up. Stiff jab to Manley’s face. Magny gets another takedown and we’re done.

SCORECARD: Magny 10-9

OFFICIAL RESULT: WINNER – Neil Magny by unanimous decision (30-27X2, 29-28).

Welterweight bout: Brock Jardine (170) vs. Kenny Robertson (170)

ROUND ONE: High head kick from Robertson. Robertson gets a takedown but Jardine grabs a guillotine. Robertson gets his head free. Robertson passes smooth like butter and takes his back. Robertson traps him with a body lock and proceeds to pummel him. Jardine rolls but Robertson tries for a rear-naked choke. Robertson switches and pulls on Jardine’s leg. I think he hyper-extended it. Regardless, Jardine taps!

OFFICIAL RESULT: WINNER – Kenny Robertson by submission (knee bar) at 2:57 of round 1.


Lightweight Bout: Caros Fodor (155) vs. Sam Stout (155)

ROUND ONE: Stout immediately tries to tie up Fodor. Fodor keeps coming at him. Stout pushes him against the fence. They trade position and strikes. Fodor stalks Stout and keeps up the pressure. Fodor takes him down. Stout switches and takes his back as Fodor stands up. They clinch against the fence. Fodor clubs Stout with his forearm and Stout drops to a knee for a moment. They clinch against the fence again. Elbow from Stout. Knee to the torso by Stout. Stout takes him down. Stout attempts to pass into mount. Stout gets it. He drops an elbow! Fodor gives up his back. Stout attacks the arm! Fodor defends and this round is over.

SCORECARD: Stout 10-9

ROUND TWO: They immediately clinch up. Stout throws another elbow. Fodor blasts Stout with a right hand! Stout is using the clinch to stifle Fodor’s punching power. Stout backs away. Leg kick from Fodor and another. Stout jabs the body. Head kick from Stout. Rogan makes mention that Fodor keeps backing away with his head held high, asking to be kicked. Left hook from Stout. Left hook from Fodor. They are trading back and forth. Knee to the body from Fodor. Lots of heavy strikes are being throw but not much is landing. Fodor attempts a takedown but fails. Fodor gets a single leg against the fence and we’re done with this round.

SCORECARD: Stout 10-9

ROUND THREE: We pick up where we left off, cliched up against the fence. Fodor trips him down. Fodor knees him to the body and Stout backs away. Fodor takes him down again. Stout pushes down on the head and stands back up. Fodor keeps holding on to Stout. Stout turns him around after a stiff elbow. Stout backs away. Short hook from Fodor finds the mark. Stout lands a straight right. Fodor peppers Stout about the face. Less than 30 seconds to go and they battling it out in the clinch against the fence.

SCORECARD: Fodor 10-9

OFFICIAL RESULT: WINNER – Sam Stout by split decision (29-28X2 Stout, 29-28 Fodor).

Featherweight Bout: Dennis Bermudez (145) vs. Matt Grice (145)

ROUND ONE: The fighters trade kicks and Bermudez pushes him to the cage. Grice turns him around. Grice trips him down but Bermudez reverses into mount! Bermudez is dropping shot after on Grice! Apparently 40 significant strikes were landed from the mount! Grice stands back up but Bermudez still has his head tied up. Grice pulls away and the fighters start winging punches at each other. Bermudez pushes him to the fence. Grice answers back with a vicious elbow. Bermudez lands a leg kick and follows with stiff strikes. Grice stuns Bermudez and then drops him with a vicious left hook! Bermudez is on Queer Street! Grice with a knee! Bermudez holds him against the fence. Spinning back kick from Grice. Grice comes forward with rights and lefts! Nice round from both men and pretty difficult to score as it was a bit of a see-saw battle.

SCORECARD: Grice 10-1

ROUND TWO: Bermudez and Grice resume their war of strikes. Bermudez pushes Grice to the fence. Grice belts him as he backs away. Bermudez falls forward while on the attack. Grice locks up his head but lets it go. Grice catches a kick and attempts a single leg. Grice gets him down. They trade in the clinch before Bermudez backs out. Grice swings for the fences but doesn’t connect. Bermudez lands an elbow. Bermudez throws a pair of straights but Grice tries to take him down. Bermudez attempts an arm-in-guillotine just as the round ends.

SCORECARD: Grice 10-1

ROUND THREE: Bermudez comes out like a tank blasting away at Grice! Grice crumbles against the fence! He’s hanging in there but Bermudez keeps up the attack! Grice gets back to his feet and Bermudez attempts a takedown. Bermudez is smashing Grice again and again! It’s drunken boxing in there! Grice is fighting back on pure instinct! Grice tries a jumping knee in the clinch! Uppercut! Neither man is willing to give an inch! Bermudez is measuring him and delivering one right hand after another! Grice with a vicious counter. Superman punch from Bermudez. They are going punch for punch like this was an action movie! Wow, I think they heard Dana loud and clear.

SCORECARD: Bermudez 10-9

OFFICIAL RESULT: WINNER – Dennis Bermudez by split decision (29-28 Grice, 29-28X2 Bermudez).

Lightweight Bout: Mike Chiesa (156.2) vs. Anton Kuivanen (156)

ROUND ONE: Kuivanen scores first with a series of punches. Kick to the body from Chiesa. Kick to the body from Kuivanen. Quick counter from Chiesa. The fighters continue trade pretty evenly in the center of the cage. Body kick from Chiesa. They clinch against the fence. Kuivanen leads in total strikes landed. Kuivanen lands a pair of hard shots. Left hooks smacks Chiesa. Flying knee by Kuivanen is caught by Chiesa and now he’s on his back. Kuivanen gets to his feet as this round comes to a close.

SCORECARD: Kuivanen 10-9

ROUND TWO: Chiesa throws a series of kicks, none of which land. Chiesa tries for a takedown but can’t make it happen. Kuivanen defends against the fence. Chiesa gets to his back. They roll to the floor. Chiesa goes for a rear-naked choke! After a bit of a struggle he gets the tap, nicely done.

OFFICIAL RESULT: WINNER – Mike Chiesa by submission (rear-naked choke) at 2:29 of round 2.

Heavyweight Bout: Lavar Johnson (255) vs. Brendan Schaub (243)

ROUND ONE: Schaub rushes forward and takes Johnson down…oy vey. Johnson holds onto Schaub for dear life praying for a stand up. Schaub goes for a guillotine. Johnson tries to punch his way out of it! Johnson survives as Schaub let’s it go after eating a lot of strikes. Schaub transitions around but that allows Johnson to get to his feet. Oh Christ! Johnson just took Schaub down. Johnson is in half guard. Schaub reverses and takes top position. Schaub content to smother and occasionally throw a short shot. Johnson gets to his feet but Schaub takes him down one more time.

SCORECARD: Schaub 10-9

ROUND TWO: They rush into a clinch and Johnson hammers at Schaub’s body. Knee to the body allows Schaub to take Johnson down. Schaub refuses to give Johnson any space as he tries to pass half guard. Johnson’s prayers are answered when the ref stands them up. Johnson smacks Schaub who immediately shoots for a takedown. Johnson stuffs it and they battle against the cage. Schaub lands on Johnson and takes him down again. Schaub smothers Johnson until the round ends.

SCORECARD: Schaub 10-9

ROUND THREE: Schaub misses with a haymaker but eats an uppercut. Schaub takes him down and does more of the same. Johnson gets to his feet and despite attempts at knocking Schaub out Schaub takes him down. Schaub gets to mount. Schaub attempts a gator roll and loses his grip on Johnson. They maul each other until the round ends. Yeesh, cut’em both.

SCORECARD: 10-9 Schaub

OFFICIAL RESULT: WINNER – Brendan Schaub by unanimous decision 30-27X3).


Welterweight Bout: Josh Koscheck (171) vs. Robbie Lawler (171)

ROUND ONE: They exchange in the center of the octagon. Kos goes to the body and takes Lawler down. Kos grabs a front facelock as Lawler scrambles to his feet. Lawler grabs Kos around the head and Kos takes him down again. Kos attempts a rear-naked choke but then gives it up. Lawler stands back up but Kos stays with him. Lawler sprawls and belts Kos across the face and hammers him for the victory! Wow, Lawler with his first win in the moneyweight division : P

OFFICIAL RESULT: WINNER – Robbie Lawler by TKO at 3:57 of round 1.

Welterweight Bout: Court McGee (170) vs. Josh Neer (171)

ROUND ONE: McGee comes out swinging. He lands a leg kick. Neer nails McGee in the chin. They continue to trade back and forth. Hook from Neer. Neer lights up Mcgee again. Inside leg kick from Mcgee. McGee uses some dirty boxing. McGee is throwing a high volume of strikes. McGee hurts Neer with a series of punches to the ribs! Neer rolls to his back and McGee is still pounding on him. McGee takes his back. He tries for a rear-naked choke but runs out of time.


ROUND TWO: Head kick from McGee. They trade and McGee knocks him on his duff! Neer gets back to his feet but McGee presses him against the fence. Neer eats a few straight punches. Another head kick from McGee. They are going toe-to-toe in the center of the octagon. Neer is throwing a series of triple jabs. Body kick from McGee. Big left hook from Neer. Neer is swinging for the fences. Neer is looking for one good KO blow.


ROUND THREE: Leg kick from Neer. McGee throw three for every one Neer throws. McGee presses Neer against the fence. McGee takes him down. Neer gets to his feet but McGee continues to press him. McGee puts him down on his back. Neer defends from the guard position. McGee scrambles and takes his back. Neer spins around again. McGee unloads with elbows. Hammer strikes from McGee and we’re done.


OFFICIAL RESULT: WINNER – Court McGee by unanimous decision (30-27X3).

Bantamweight Bout: Urijah Faber (136) vs. Ivan Menjivar (135.6)

ROUND ONE: Menjivar clubs Faber not once but twice! They clinch and Menjivar judo throws him to the mat! Faber sweeps to top position. Faber is in side control. Menjivar moves him to guard. Faber elbows him from the top. Faber continues to punish Menjivar with elbows. Faber stands up in guard and eats a huge up-kick. He eats another diving back into guard. Menjivar scrambles, Faber takes his back as he stands up and taps him out with a rear-naked choke! Wow, Faber wasn’t messing around tonight.

OFFICIAL RESULT: WINNER – Urijah Faber by submission (rear-naked choke) at 4:34 of round 1.

Light Heavyweight Bout: Dan Henderson (205) vs. Lyoto Machida (202)

ROUND ONE: Henderson tries twice to land a leg but he’s too slow. Machida lands a leg kick. Henderson lands a glancing kick but Machida is too elusive. Henderson attempts to chase Machida down but he’s too quick. Lots of feints from Machida. Henderson can’t get a clear shot at Machida. Front kick from Machida misses. Henderson starting to land those leg kicks but can’t connect on the follow-up overhand right. They tie up and exchange, release and tie up again. Machida takes Henderson down and we’re done with this round.

SCORECARD: Machida 10-9

ROUND TWO: Machida throws a kick to the face. Henderson with a leg kick. They tie up and Henderson lands another kick. Machida kicks him back. Machida front kicks Henderson in the mush. Henderson goes all Ryan Bader in there but Machida dodges him. Machida gives us a bit of a wiggle in the hips. Machida kicks to the body. Henderson kicks and is knocked over. Machida catches Henderson coming in. Henderson eats a left coming in. Henderson chases him down and wildly swings at him. Spinning back kick to the body and we’re off to round 3.

SCORECARD: Machida 10-9

ROUND THREE: Machida delivers a quick kick to the body. Henderson takes Machida down! Machida stifles Henderson, looking for a stand up. Henderson stays body to body and peppers his ribcage. Machida gets to his feet. Leg kick from Machida. Machida his best impression of an air traffic controller. Jumping front kick to the face from Machida. Machida lands a right and we’re done.

SCORECARD: Henderson 10-9

OFFICIAL RESULT: WINNER – Lyoto Machida by split decision (29-28 Henderson, 29-28X2 Machida).


Women’s Bantamweight Title Bout: Champ Ronda Rousey (134.6) vs. Liz Carmouche (133.6)

ROUND ONE: Rousey comes across jabbing. Carmouche smashes her a few times but Rousey clinches up and takes her down. Carmouche scrambles and jumps on her back! Carmouche cranks on her face hard! Rousey shakes her off and adjusts her outfit. Rousey stands in her guard. Rousey gives her the leg so she get inside. She locks up her head again. Rousey punches Carmouche over and over again in the face. Carmouche is trying to get to Rousey’s back. Rousey transitions and goes for (you guessed it) the ARMBAR!!! Less than 20 seconds on the clock and we’re done! Carmouch taps; 7 first round armbars son!

OFFICIAL RESULT: WINNER AND STILL UFC WOMEN’S BANTAMWEIGHT CHAMPION – Rowdy Ronda Rousey by submission (armbar) at 4:49 round 1.
