411’s UFC Fight Night 85 Report 3.19.16

March 20, 2016 | Posted by Robert Winfree
Mark Hunt

Hello and welcome to 411mania’s LIVE coverage of UFC Fight Night 85! I’m Robert Winfree and I’ll be providing you with all of the updates for tonight’s event. This event has a pretty solid card, nothing spectacular but a lot of the usual suspects when the UFC goes to Australia or New Zealand are here tonight. The main event has some implications at heavyweight as Mark Hunt takes on Frank Mir. A loss for either man would be pretty bad, virtually killing any title aspirations for either man and we’ll no doubt hear more than once that this is a classic striker vs. grappler match. The co-main event is an interesting clash at welterweight, Neil Magny is hoping to continue his ascent through the welterweight ranks while Hector Lombard needs a win after serving a suspension for a failed drug test. This event comes to the world from the Brisbane Entertainment Center in Brisbane, Australia and we’ve got Jon Anik and Kenny Florian on commentary tonight.

A few fights got shuffled around in the week leading up to this event, injuries and visa issues mostly. Alan Patrick was supposed to fight Chad Laprise in this spot, but Laprise got bumped up to the next fight when Abel Trujillo had visa issues so now Patrick takes on Damien Brown. Patrick is coming off of his first professional loss when he was defeated by the severely underrated Mairbek Taisumov but had a great winning streak going before that and is hoping to spoil the debut of Brown tonight and get back on the winning side of things. Damien Brown took this fight on short notice but has a five fight winning streak going on and a successful UFC debut here would certainly be the biggest win of his career to date.

He says he thought he gave everything in the first choke attempt, then used strikes to set up the choke which he thought he needed as he believed he was down on points.
