I didn’t come here to tell you that so without further dudes, let’s make with the fussin’ and-a fightin’!


We are live at the Ericsson Globe Arena in Stockholm, Sweden!

Our hosts for tonight are Mike Goldberg and Kenny Florian. We go to the octagon for our first fight!


Featherweight bout: Jason Young (145lbs 8-5) vs. Eric Wisely (145lbs 19-7)

ROUND ONE: Wisely starts with some faints. The fighters trade kicks to the legs, body and head. Wisely lands a left hand. Young misses with a right hook. Wisely throws a spinning back kick but is caught by Young, who takes his back. Young knees him in the thighs. The ref breaks them up and centers them. Young lands a front kick. Young lands another kick. Wisely comes in with a kick, it’s caught and Wisely is on his butt. Young works from guard. Young stands up and kicks Wisely while he continues to lay on his back. The ref allows Wisely to stand. Wisely tries another high kick, Young ducks it and knocks him over. Young works from guard with 30 seconds on the clock.

SCORECARD: Young 10-9

ROUND TWO: Young counters Wisely and lands a one-two punch. Young ties him up and trips him down against the fence. Young is trying to get something going on the ground while Wisely attempts to control him. Young pulls out of the guard and stands over him. Wisely kicks at him and Young dives back into his guard. Young is peppering Wisely with short punches but he’s not able to accomplish much else. Wisely appears to be out-striking Young on the ground. Young stands up again and the ref allows Wisely up. Wisely lands a leg kick. Young hits a leg kick that takes Wisely’s leg out from under him. Thirty seconds left and Young is back in guard. Wisely tries to grab for a submission but comes up with air.

SCORECARD: Young 10-9

ROUND THREE: Wisely’s corner told him to throw the kitchen sink at Young and so he does. He comes and lands a huge front kick. He tries to take Young to the ground. Young defends and keeps this fight standing. They exchange leg kicks. Flying knee misses from Young. Wisely scores with the left hand off of a fake. Young knocks Wisely down after a kick, again. Young opens up with some brutal ground and pound. Wisely defends and Young ejects from guard. Young follows a big right hand back into guard. The ref stands them up once more. Young just misses with a spinning back kick. Wisely throws a head kick, which allows Young to knock him down once more. To the judges scorecards we go.

SCORECARD: Young 10-9

OFFICIAL RESULT: WINNER – Jason Young by unanimous decision (30-28, 29-28, 29-28).

The judges in Sweden apparently are very liberal in scoring rounds as draws.

Welterweight bout: Simeon Thoresen (170lbs 16-2-1) vs. Besam Yousef (170lbs 6-0)

ROUND ONE: Thoresen and Yousef trade and try to find the distance. They tie up, exchange knees and release. Yousef lands left hook. Thoresen shoots but Yousef sprawls and defends. Thoresen tries again and Yousef unloads on his face with a series of punches. Thoresen switches and finally gets the takedown. Both men are exchanging on the ground with Thoresen in top position. Thoresen smashes down on Yousef’s chest. The ref stands them up (because apparently Swedes hate grappling). Thoresen grabs a Thai clinch but Yousef is pounding away at his body. Thoresen lands a few knees but Yousef lands a pair of hard elbows. That’s a tough one to score folks.

SCORECARD: Yousef 10-9

ROUND TWO: Yousef lands a hook to body. He hits with a counter left hook. Yousef is throwing a lot of hooks but not much is landing. Thoresen shoots but Yousef defends with a nice sprawl. Thoresen scrambles and locks up Yousef in a guillotine. Yousef escapes but Thoresen stays with it and locks him up again. Yousef tries to defend but he’s getting beaten from Thoresen who has mounted him on his back. Thoresen finishes him off with a rear-naked choke.

OFFICIAL RESULT: WINNER – Simeon Thoresen by submission (rear-naked chose) at 2:36.

Lightweight bout: Yoislandy Izquierdo (155lbs 6-0) vs. Reza Madadi (155lbs 11-2)

ROUND ONE: Izquierdo feints and lands a few strikes. Madadi bull rushes his opponent and takes him down. Madadi has side control and he appears to working for a choke (he pulls out a Von Flue and I’ll plotz). Izquierdo escapes and gets to his feet. Izquierdo lands a pair of kicks. Madadi takes a knee to the body while attempting a takedown. Madadi forces Izquierdo to the ground while pressing him against the cage but he can’t keep him there. The ref breaks them up. Izquierdo opens up on Madadi with a series of kicks that Madadi against the fence. Izquierdo lands a kick to the face. He follows with another but it is blocked. Izquierdo leads off with a superman punch and follows with a long series of combinations. Madadi is in trouble but he recovers and takes Izquierdo down at the end of the round.

SCORECARD: Izquierdo 10-9

ROUND TWO: Izquierdo comes out swinging. Izquierdo unloads another round of strikes, back him against the fence and is promptly taken down. Madadi tries for a guillotine. He rolls with Izquierdo, locks up the choke again and down goes Izquierdo! Nice jits pal!

OFFICIAL RESULT: WINNER – Reza Madadi by submission (guillotine) at 1:28 of round 2.

Middleweight bout: Francis Carmont (186lbs 17-7) vs. Magnus Cedenblad (185lbs 10-3)

ROUND ONE: Cedenblad starts off kicking. Carmont responds with a front kick. Carmont gets a takedown but Cedenblad tries for a guillotine. Carmont pulls his head free. The fighters get back to their feet and Cedenblad takes him back down again. Cedenblad gets full mount as Carmont gives up his back. Cedenblad is pounding on Carmont, trying to open him up for a submission. Carmont cannot get free of Cedenblad who is stuck to him like glue. Cedenblad breaks him down, turns him over and tries for a rear-naked choke. Carmont defends, reverses and gets top position. Cedenblad gives up his back momentarily but he ends the round in an offensive position.

SCORECARD: Cedenblad 10-9

ROUND TWO: Carmont wastes no time going for and ultimately getting a takedown. Carmont gets full mount. Cedenblad gives up his back. Carmont is punishing Cedenblad! This one is going to be stopped if Cedenblad doesn’t start to do something! Carmont locks up a rear-naked choke and Cedenblad taps out! Nice comeback for GSP’s sparring partner.

OFFICIAL RESULT: WINNER – Francis Carmont by submission (rear-naked choke) at 1:42 of round 2.

Light Heavyweight bout: Tom DeBlass (205lbs 7-0) vs. Cyrille Diabate (206lbs 18-8-3)

ROUND ONE: DeBlass tries to get inside of Diabate’s striking reach. He rushes forward again, pushes him against the fence and plants him on his back. Diabate is attempting to control DeBlass from the guard position. DeBlass is attempting to pass guard into mount. Diabate appears to by trying to escape (kind of sort of maybe). Where is the stand-up happy ref from earlier because this match could really use him. DeBlass lands some elbows to the side of his head. DeBlass moves to side control. In the TA-DA nick of time, DeBlass takes his back and attempts an RNC. Horn blows and we’re off to round 2.

SCORECARD: DeBlass 10-8

ROUND TWO: Diabate kicks, it is caught and we resume the grappling encounter from round 1. DeBlass once again gets to side control. Diabate escapes and gets to his feet. DeBlass holds onto his head but Diabate pulls away and gets top control on DeBlass. Diabate uses his top position to do some ground and pound. DeBlass reverses, tries for a foot lock and finally lands in side control. Diabate escapes and gets top control back. He resumes the ground and pound. DeBlass may be too tired to defend himself. Diabate pounds on him some more until the round ends. Diabate may still be in this one!

SCORECARD: Diabate 10-9

ROUND THREE: Diabate is chasing DeBlass down. DeBlass is on his back and Diabate is pounding away on him. Diabate continues to hammer on DeBlass who is barely able to defend himself. DeBlass grabs Diabate’s leg and tries for a lock. DeBlass reverses position and is in side control. Diabate escapes and DeBlass is at his mercy once more. Diabate elbows DeBlass in the body. That’s how this one finishes, with Diabate tenderizing DeBlass.

SCORECARD: Diabate 10-8

OFFICIAL RESULT: WINNER – Cyrille Diabate by majority decision (29-28X2, 28-28).

Welterweight bout: Papy Abedi (171lbs 8-1) vs. James Head (170lbs 7-2)

ROUND ONE: Head and Abedi trade to start, lock up and press each other against the fence. Abedi takes Head down. Head gets Abedi locked up in guard. Head hips out and escapes. The fighters get back to their feet. Head chases Abedi down and puts him on the ropes with an onslaught of vicious punches and elbows. Abedi goes down in a heap. Head follows him to the ground and taps him out with everyone’s favorite finisher tonight, the glorious rear-naked choke!

OFFICIAL RESULT: WINNER – James Head by submission (rear-naked choke) at 4:33.

Bantamweight bout: Damacio Page (135lbs 12-6) vs. Brad Pickett (136lbs 21-5)

ROUND ONE: Both fighters come out ROADHOUSE style! Pickett clobbers Page and down they go. Pickett pounds on him guard. Pickett stands up and nearly has his face kicked off by Page. Both fighters get to their feet. Page tackles Pickett to the ground. Pickett gets up and takes Page down. Pickett is in side control. Page moves him into full guard. Pickett continues to smash Page from the guard position. Pickett hits him with some sharp elbows. Page moves to advance his position and Pickett stands up. Page misses with a flying knee, which results in Pickett taking him down. The fighters are up but Pickett puts page down again.

SCORECARD: Pickett 10-9

ROUND TWO: Page attempts a takedown, but gets nothing. Pickett backs him up against the fence. Page slams Pickett. Pickett gets to his feet and clobbers Page. Pickett tries to finish but Page locks him up long enough to recover. Pickett transitions and continues to punish Page. Page is fading fast! Pickett tries for a guillotine but Page defends and ends up in top control. Page gets to his feet, and is nearly knocked silly. Page shoots for his life but Pickett sprawls. Pickett gets Page in a rear-naked choke and it is all over! Round 2 is where fighters go down tonight…wow!

OFFICIAL RESULT: WINNER – Brad Pickett by submission (rear-naked choke) at 4:05 of round 2.

Welterweight bout: DaMarques Johnson (171lbs 18-9) vs. John Maguire (170lbs 17-3)

ROUND ONE: Johnson starts with kick that almost became our first nut shot of the night. Johnson continues to kick and chase Maguire as he circles. Maguire jabs, setting up a takedown, which he with a authority. Johnson attacks from the bottom with a triangle, an arm bar and finally a shoulder lock. Maguire is just playing defense at this time. Maguire is sitting in guard, doing nothing. Johnson attempts and escape but Maguire wrestles him down and gets to side control. Johnson strikes from the bottom. Johnson has him stuck in half guard. Maguire finally passes back to side control. Maguire stands and locks up Johnson’s head. He transitions to the back and tries to work for a rear-naked choke. Johnson may have been on the bottom but he still did more than Maguire.

SCORECARD: Johnson 10-9

ROUND TWO: Maguire fakes a takedown and lands a hard punch, knocking Johnson down. Johnson reverses position and gets top control. Maguire tries for a triangle, Johnson defends and both fighters get back their feet. Johnson chops at Maguires legs with kicks. Maguire wrestles Johnson down again. Maguire hammers on Johnson in order to improve his position. Maguire is stuck in half guard. Johnson attacks the shoulder, Maguire steps over and arm bars Johnson for another contender for submission of the night! OK, so apparently only the refs hate grappling because the fighters and the fans are all about it.

OFFICIAL RESULT: WINNER – John Maguire by submission (arm bar) at 4:40 of round 2.

Featherweight bout: Diego Nunes (146lbs 17-2) vs. Dennis Siver (145lbs 19-8)

ROUND ONE: Nunes lands a kick to start. Nunes lands another kick. Siver kicks back. Siver ducks a punch and single legs Nunes down. Nunes escapes and stands back up. The fighters trade back and forth, punches and kicks. Nunes attempts a jumping switch kick. Siver counters a kick with a one-two combination. Siver continues to counter Nunes with a left hook. Siver is able to effectively land combinations. Nunes is throwing single kicks at a time and not landing many of them.

SCORECARD: Siver 10-9

ROUND TWO: The fighters resume trading kicks. Siver ducks a spinning back fist and tries for a takedown. Siver wrestles him down but Nunes won’t stay down. Nunes lands a front kick and nearly has his face caved in. Siver misses a counter right hook. Not sure how or why but we’ve got our first not shot of the night. Nunes waves it off and we keep going. Siver tries another takedown but fails. Siver is hit hard by left uppercut. Siver hits a spinning back kick. Siver skins Nunes’ nose with a front kick. Siver smashes Nunes with a left hook. Nunes misses a kick and falls down.

SCORECARD: Siver 10-9

ROUND THREE: And we resume our kickboxing match, still in progress. Nunes misses a high kick. Nunes clinches and hits with knee. Siver tries to take Nunes’ head off. Siver is chasing Nunes down, landing strikes and collecting points. Nunes grabs another clinch and proceeds to knee Siver. Siver blocks and breaks free. Nunes clinches again but Siver shuts him down. Nunes has drawn blood from Siver. Siver ducks another kick and tries for a takedown. Nunes stays on his feet as they crash into the fence. Siver presses Nunes against the fence and nails him with a hard left as Nunes breaks free. Nunes recovers as this fight comes to an end.

SCORECARD: Siver 10-9

OFFICIAL RESULT: WINNER – Dennis Siver by unanimous decision (29-28X3) .

WAR SIVER~!!! BRING ON JOSE ALDO in CALGARY!!! OK maybe not…yet!

Welterweight bout: Siyar Bahadurzada (170lbs 20-4-1) vs. Paulo Thiago (170lbs 14-3)

ROUND ONE: Both men start off very tentatively. Thiago rushes forward, eats an uppercut and BOOM! Paulo Thiago is OUT! Ladies and gentlemen, this is our KO of the night.

Ron Simmons, what are your thoughts?

OFFICIAL RESULT: WINNER – Siyar Bahadurzada by KTFO at 0:42 of round 1.


The First Round Finish Club salutes you!

Middleweight bout: Alessio Sakara (186lbs 19-8-0, 1NC) vs. Brian Stann (185lbs 11-4)

ROUND ONE: Stann starts off kicking. Sakara misses with a hook. After a tentative start both fighters appear to agree to completely throw caution to the wind and start going toe-to-toe with one another. We have a brawl! Stann delivers a pair of knees to Sakara and down he goes! Stann moves in for the kill. He pounds on him from guard and momentarily knocks him out! The ref stops this one before Sakara ends seriously hurt.

OFFICIAL RESULT: WINNER – Brian Stann by mauling TKO (strikes) at 2:26 of round 1.


Light Heavyweight bout: Alexander Gustafsson (205lbs 13-1) vs. Thiago Silva (205lbs 14-2-0, 1NC)

ROUND ONE: Silva runs across the cage to belt Gustafsson one! Gustafsson is on his bicycle. BOOM! Gustafsson smashes Silva! He goes in for the finish but Silva defends and gets back to his feet. Gustafsson nails him in the body and down he goes again. Silva recovers and gets to his feet. Gustafsson is keeping Silva at bay with his long range. Silva lands a hard shot but Gustafsson keeps composed and moving. Gustafsson kicks Silva in the leg. Silva is looking for a home for his overhand right. Silva kicks him in the leg. Silva misses with the big right hand. Gustafsson and Silva trade a bit more as the round comes to a close.

SCORECARD: Gustafsson 10-9

ROUND TWO: Gustafsson starts the round by tossing Silva across the cage like a rag doll. Silva gets back up. Gustafsson lands a combination. Silva attempts to counter. Silva looks annoyed that Gustafsson won’t stay still and let Silva hit him. Gustafsson attacks the leg. Silva eats few more shots from Gustafsson. Silva lands a hard right, and another! Gustafsson gets away. Gustafsson ducks an overhand right. Gustafsson jabs at Silva. Silva is desperately looking for that one big punch. Front kick from Gustafsson.

SCORECARD: Gustafsson 10-9

ROUND THREE: Gustafsson chops at Silva’s legs with kicks. Silva tries to get inside and start a brawl. He is shrugged off by Gustafsson. Gustafsson lands a front kick. He lands a knee on Silva. Gustafsson is starting to pick up the pace. Gustafsson slides in, lands an uppercut-hook combo and flies out again. Gustafsson chases Silva out of the pocket. He lands a knee. He follows with a right hand. Silva needs to finish this fight or he will surely lose on the scorecards. Silva can’t get the power shot he needs off. The horn sounds and we are done.

SCORECARD: Gustafsson 10-9

OFFICIAL RESULT: WINNER – Alexander Gustafsson by unanimous decision (30-27X2, 29-28) .

I suspect if the commentary was any indication, that Gustafsson vs Jones for the LHW strap is in the works at some point down the line (probably after Jones dispatches with Evans and Hendo).

A fine night of fights. I have no complaints. I’ll be back Friday night for Alvarez vs Aoki II from Bellator. Also remember to tune in this Sunday at 11:00 AM for the 411 Ground and Pound Radio show as we are back from our Easter break.
