411’s Ultimate Fighter 22: Team McGregor vs. Team Faber Report 11.11.15 – Episode Eight

November 11, 2015 | Posted by Larry Csonka

WELCOME: Welcome back to 411 and our coverage of the Ultimate Fighter 22: Team McGregor vs. Team Faber. Last week, in the sixth fight of the season, Team McGregor’s Martin Svensson (14-5) defeated Team Faber’s Thanh Le (4-1) via submission in the second round. This week they are advertising two fights, with the first of those being Team McGregor’s Artem Lobov (11-10-1-1) faces Team Faber’s James Jenkins (8-1).

* Artem Lobov actually lost in the elimination fights (in a fight that should have gone to a third round), but both teams were able to bring someone back, and since Lobov is a McGregor teammate outside of the show, he got brought back. Lobov knows he got a second chance and has to make the most of it. Conor admits that he is here more for Lobov than the others, due to their relationship outside the house. Conor of course has high praise for him, calling Lobov a hard worker and dedicated fighter. Faber says Jenkins isn’t a finesse guy, and figures that the fight could get crazy and bloody real quick.

* When they go to the weigh-ins, Conor and Faber continue to talk shit; Conor says Faber can fight on the undercards of his fights. We didn’t hear weights, but they weighed in without issue. Conor and Faber continue their shit talking, with Conor saying Faber can continue to be a highlight of the prelims.

* Fight day for fight #1, as the fighters go through their usual pre-fight warm-ups.

FIGHT SEVEN – Team McGregor’s Artem Lobov (11-10-1-1) faces Team Faber’s James Jenkins (8-1)ROUND ONE: They touch gloves and after both look for distance, we get a wild flurry, but no one connects. Lobov lands a leg kick and shot to the body. Jenkins chases, tries to paw with the jab but eats a body and leg kick. Lobov easily getting the better of the striking early, but then Jenkins finally connects with a big right. He lands another and Lobov answers with a counter left. Lobov hits another right and Jenkins drops to a knee but pops right back up. Lobov’s right eye is busted open and gets checked by the doctor, and we’re back to action. Lobov controls the cage and is landing the better strikes. They get warned to watch their fingers, and then Lobov connects with a leg kick. More leg kicks by Lobov connect, and the he hits left hook. He drops Jenkins, follows up with ground and pound and that is all.

OFFICIAL RESULT: Artem Lobov via RD1 TKO

* Team McGregor maintains control. Lobov says that he proved that he belongs in the competition, and Dana agreed. Conor is pleased that Lobov won and that his team is keeping control.

* The next fight will be Team McGregor’s David Teymur (3-1) vs. Team Faber’s Johnny Nunez (5-1).

* Conor feels that Teymur has a lot of fire, and will overwhelm Nunez. Faber brought Nunez back, and he wants to fight Teymur so he is happy with the match up. Nunez is a wrestler, and Faber feels it is a dangerous fight, but that Nunez can win

* Fight day again! Teymur is not worried about Nunez’s wrestling because he can wrestle as well. He will not be stopped at achieving his goals.

* It’s 4:15 PM local time, and McGregor is NOT there. The NSAC says they cannot wait any longer, and the fight must start. We’re in for a long fight.

FIGHT EIGHT – Team McGregor’s David Teymur (3-1) vs. Team Faber’s Johnny Nunez (5-1)ROUND ONE: They circle a bit, both look to advance but don’t do anything. Nunez chases and lands solid strikes, but then eats a body kick. Nunez chases with a wild right hook, body kick by Teymur and then Nunez shoots and they work to the cage. Teymur lands knees after tossing Nunez aside with ease. He lands some good ground and pound, Nunez gets warned to fight and Teymur keeps landing with rights along the cage. Nunez manages to get to his feet, Teymur keeps the pressure on and then gets warned to not grab the fence. Nunez in with a flying knee, and that allows him to take Teymur to the ground. He works from half guard and lands solid rights to the body. He tries to take the back, Teymur gets to his feet and lands knees to the thighs. They continue to work along the cage, and then Nunez takes him down. Nunez in guard here, and then gets mount. Teymur gets him back to half guard, Nunez lands more body shots , Teymur tries to scramble and the round ends. After Teymur nearly had him finished, Nunez made the round very close. SCORECARD: Teymur 10-9

ROUND TWO: Round two begins and Nunez controls the cage, but then eats a body kick. They largely circle for a while until they both connect with body kicks. Nunez shoots and they go to the cage as Teymur looks for a possible guillotine. They get to the feet and separate. Jumping knee connects for Teymur, but Nunez takes him down center cage and works from guard. Nunez works to pass guard, gets to half guard and lands good body strikes. Teymur almost gets to his feet, but Nunez is a blanket and keeps him down. He continues with the short body strikes, and then gets to mount. Teymur gets warned for a strike to the back of the head as Nunez continues to control position. The ref is stupid because he warns Nunez to stay busy, he is busy dumb ass. Teymur then gets back to his feet, they trade a bit and Teymur flashes a high kick, which is checked. Good body kick and knee by Teymur follow as they work to the cage. Jumping knee again for Teymur, they trade and the round ends. SCORECARD: 19-19

They go to the ground, and Teymur unloads on him. Nunez gets warned to fight back and Teymur keeps landing rights. Nunez turtles up, and then finally makes it to his feet. They fight along the cage, Teymur presses and connects with knees. Both are dead tired and get warned to work and then finally get separated. Teymur hits a jumping switch kick and takes Nunez down and has north south position. Nunez gets to his feet, they separate and then Nunez walks into another body kick. They again work along the cage, Teymur gets warned for like the 10th time not to grab the cage. They are so tired, Teymur manages to land another kick and then pulls Nunez down into north south position. Nunez escapes and works into half guard. He then gets the back of Teymur, Faber calls for him to get a choke and he goes for it, but Teymur gets back onto his back. Nunez from half guard not offering too much of a fight with under 30-seconds to go. Nunez gets a flurry in the final seconds, but it won’t be enough. SCORECARD: Teymur 29-28
