If you’ve had a chance to listen to our new 411 Ground and Pound Radio Show I just wanted to take a minute and thank you for giving it a chance. I’m well aware that there’s only a billion+ amateur voices on the internet that you could have been paying attention to but you actively chose to spend some of your time listening to us give our opinions on MMA. For that I am grateful and appreciative (even if you thought we stunk). My hope is that some of you brave souls will rouse yourselves out of bed early on Sunday mornings and listen to the show when it’s live. Personally, I think the perfect way to spend a Sunday morning, especially if it’s after a Saturday night fight, is to pour yourself a hot cup of your favorite coffee, (I would recommend a Keurig coffee maker if you are in the market for one) cut yourself a fresh bagel – maybe put some shmear on it or lox or for my fellow Jews, some nice whitefish, and sit back in your favorite chair while listening to the 411 Ground and Pound Radio Show.

I didn’t come here to tell you any of that so without further dudes, let’s get on with the fussin’ and a fightin’.

David Branch def. Dustin Jacoby via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28)

Gesias “JZ” Cavalcante def. T.J. O’Brien via submission (heel hook) – Round 1, 1:03

Josh Burkman def. Gerald Harris via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 30-27)

Steve Carl def. Ramico Blackmon via submission (rear-naked choke) – Round 1, 2:11

Brian Cobb defeats Rony Torres by split decision (29-28 x2 28-29)

Tyson Steele def. Gregor Gracie via TKO (Knee and Punches) R1 4:52

We are live at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada!

Your talking heads tonight are Todd Harris and Bas Rutten. Todd Harris brings out Ray Sefo talk about his new baby.

Todd Harris runs down the card and it would appear that the Gracie is not intended to be part of the main broadcast. I assume that if they are heavy on time they will play it like the UFC does for their prelims.

And Arlovski is wearing a Madball sweatshirt…LOVE IT! #NYHC4LIFE

Last comment, apparently there’s no elbows allowed at all. I get why Bellator doesn’t do it for the tourney bouts but this is just lame. Sigh.

Catchweight bout (208lbs): Travis Bartlett (208)* vs. Tyrone Spong (205)

ROUND ONE: Spong comes out jabbing, as you might expect. Bartlett is doing a lot of circling away. Spong connects with a kick to the face. He does it again and drops him! Spong lets Bartlett get back to his feet. Spong connects again. Overhand right from Spong. Bartlett takes a knee to the belly. Spong is lands a straight left. Bartlett is just trying to survive this first round. Spong is using Bartlett like an abused sparring partner. Straight right from Spong. Bartlett tries to go low but eats a right hook. BLAMMO! Spong knocks Bartlett down with a big straight right and walks away all Mark Hunt-like. Welcome to MMA Mr. Spong!

OFFICIAL RESULT: WINNER – Tyrone Spong by KO at 3:15 of round 1.

Mike Straka is in the cage for the post-fight interview.

Bantamweight bout: Miguel Torres (135.5 lbs.) vs. Marlon Moraes (135 lbs.)

ROUND ONE: Moraes kicks first and completely misses. He kicks high and it is blocked. Torres throws a high kick, Moraes catches it and Moraes unloads on him. They grapple for a moment on the ground before getting back to their feet. Moraes lands a hook. He’s being the aggressor in this fight and it is working for him. Torres clinches with him against the fence. Spinning back kick from Moraes finds nothing. Overhand right smashes Torres. Torres throws a looping punch and loses his balance. Moraes and busted Torres open. Moraes is able to keep Torres at bay with a variety of kicks. Moraes plants one the chin to end the round.

SCORECARD: Moraes 10-9

ROUND TWO: Torres finally wakes up and we get a brawl in the center of the cage. Torress resumes circling away from Moraes. Leg kick from Moraes. They clash again and Moraes lights him up. Torres can’t seem to get much going. Leg kick checked from Torres. Torres tries for a takedown but Moraes slips through his fingers. Torres is jabbing now. Big swings, big misses from both fighters. Back kick from Moraes. Torres throws a few punches and kicks, which are mostly blocked. Moraes counters and Torres stumbles. Moraes slowed down in that round so it’s a little closer but still no cigar for Torres.

SCORECARD: Moraes 10-9

ROUND THREE: Moraes is sticking and moving more this round rather than brawling in the pocket. Torres is picking up the pace again and he’s landing a bit more as well. Moraes is continuing to damage the legs of Torres with swift, hard kicks. Torres’ lead leg is bent out of shape by a really hard kick. Torres is the one standing in the pocket and throwing caution to the wind. Torres will surely win this round if Moraes doesn’t get more aggressive. Moraes gets a takedown! They have less than a minute to make something happen. Moraes is taking a beating from the guard position. Torres is making him pay. The horn sounds and we’re off to the scorecards of the infamous Vegas judges. May God have mercy on us all.

SCORECARD: Torres 10-9

OFFICIAL RESULT: WINNER – Marlon Moraes by split decision (30-27, 29-28 Moraes, 29-28 Torres).

The right guy won the wrong way. And as usual Torres stunk up the joint. Apparently Tyson Nam vs Marlon Moraes will happen for the WSOF some time in early 2013. Bully!

Light Heavyweight bout: Anthony Johnson (205 lbs.) vs. D.J. Linderman (205.5 lbs.)

ROUND ONE: Lots of pawing to start and then Rumble kicks him in the balls. Sigh, this night started off so well. Harris says they are both pacing. Rumble is pacing, Linderman is trying to put his balls back where they belong. The fight resumes. Johnson kicks high (deftly missing the man’s crotch this time). Low kick to the leg from Johnson. Another one and Linderman gets dropped. Johnson moves in to finish but Linderman recovers. Johnson is throwing a lot of kicks in this round. He gets a takedown. He tries to get something going from guard. He takes his back. Johnson works his grappling and sticks his head in a guillotine. Johnson pulls his head out and they get back to their feet. Johnson drops him with a big right and he falls like a tree! Seriously, it looked like the man had been shot! The First Round Finish Club salutes you Mr. Rumble!

OFFICIAL RESULT: WINNER – Anthony “Rumble” Johnson by KO at 3:58 of round 1.

Heavyweight bout: Andrei Arlovski (247 lbs.) vs. Devin Cole (249 lbs.)

ROUND ONE: Arlovski comes out jabbing. Cole jabs back at him. Cole lands a right. Arlovski slips a left. Cole shoots for a single. Arlovski gets to the cage for balance. He defends so Cole moves to clinch. Cole content to hug and shoulder shrug. Arlovski pushes him against the fence and breaks away. BOOM! Arlovski smashes Cole and finishes him off on the ground with hammer fists. Done and done! Bas gives a nod to Rocky IV, “Everything he hits, he destroys.” That made this whole night worth it.

OFFICIAL RESULT: WINNER – Andrei Arlovski by TKO at 2:37 of round 1.

Tonight was a fun night of free fights. Pretty much all the right fighters won their matches and did so in an entertaining way (not you Torres, you still stink). That’s all I ask for.

The the whole crew is back Sunday morning at 11:00am for the 411 Ground and Pound Radio show. Until then, be well, be safe and behave!
