MMAjunkie recently spoke to UFC fighter Adriano Martins ahead of his upcoming UFC 204 bout with Leonardo Santos. The fight is set for later today in Manchester, England. Below are some highlights from the interview.

Martins on preferring to face someone from another country: “I’d rather face someone from another country than a Brazilian. But this is a business. My weight class is full of Brazilians. There are a lot of great guys. It’s a highly competitive weight class, so we can’t be choosy. I’m looking at this as a professional. Ultimately, fighters don’t choose opponents. So I always have it in my mind to train for the best possible adversaries.”

His thoughts on Santos an opponent: “Leo is a very difficult opponent. I’m happy to be facing him. He may not have lost since (2009), but that’s relative. I’ve faced fighters who were undefeated. A fight is a fight. I had a year to get ready since I was recovering from surgery. I’m feeling great now. England is a beautiful country. My main concern is having a great fight which the fans and UFC brass can enjoy. I want to fight again very soon. I’m going after that victory.”

Martins on looking for a finish: “I always try to finish my opponent before the final buzzer. I’ve never underestimated anyone I’ve faced. But if I have to win by decision, that’s OK too. I certainly don’t want to break my current win streak. My goal is to be one of the best.”

Martins on moving to Florida to train: “A little over a year ago, I moved to Florida with my family to train at American Top Team. I train with their entire team, which is gigantic. I trained with Leandro ‘Buscape’ Silva, Luis ‘Sapo’ Santos, Will Brooks, Dustin Poirier, and many others. I also trained with heavier guys who helped simulate Leo’s game. I’m ready for another war.”
