Alberto Mina Talks About Huge Pressure To Stay Undefeated

November 27, 2015 | Posted by Joseph Lee

In an interview with MMA Junkie, Alberto Mina (11-0 MMA, 1-0 UFC) said that there’s a lot of pressure on him to stay undefeated as he heads into his UFC Fight Night 79 fight with Yoshihiro Akiyama (14-5 MMA, 2-4 UFC) tomorrow night. It happens at the Olympic Gymnastics Arena in Seoul, streaming on UFC Fight Pass. Here are highlights:

On the pressure to stay undefeated: “I don’t feel truly comfortable – in fact no one can be comfortable in the UFC. The pressure to remain undefeated is huge, but I try not to think about it. I love being the underdog. It takes some pressure off my back. It’s a good thing that he is famous and respected. Perhaps I too will have more attention from the media and the general public.”

On his traveling to fight: “As a teenager, I competed often, and my family always supported me. But when I chose to migrate to MMA, I found certain barriers due to the bad reputation of the sport at the time. I left Brazil more than 10 years ago to seek out my dream. On a visit to Hong Kong, after a workout at Epic MMA Club, I immediately received a job offer. A few weeks later, I moved permanently to Hong Kong. They really liked what they saw during my workout.”

On his plans to finish Akiyama: “I intend to be victorious again by controlling the fight and getting the job done. I’m preparing for everything, whether on the ground or standing. I hope the fight doesn’t go to the hands of the judges.”
