Alex Oliveira Won’t Turn Down Welterweight Opportunities

July 23, 2016 | Posted by Larry Csonka

– Alex Oliveira recently spoke with mmajunkie.com, here are the highlights…

On The Cowboy Nickname: “It started with my first week at the gym. I used to work with cattle for a living, that sort of rough stuff. So at the gym I performed. … It felt like I’d been training hard for two months. So, I said, ‘I was born to be a fighter.’ After I started training, getting straight fights, I said, ‘I’m going to be among the best in the UFC.’”

On Fighting at 170: “After this fight, I want to get back to 155,” Oliveira said. “I have a plan. I want to get a top-15 at 155-pounds and make my way to the belt. But in the meantime, they keep offering me fights at 170, so I just go for it. While they don’t call me for those, I’m going out there and brawling.”

On How He Feels Heading Into The Fight: “I’m calm, I’m focused, I’m well-trained,” Oliveira said. “This keeps me cool. It’s show time. I’m with my masters, they’ve trained me well. I’m relaxed. And that’s what matters, right?”
