In an interview with MMA Junkie, Andre Arlovski (25-11 MMA, 14-5 UFC) spoke about why he plans to beat Alistair Overeem (40-14-1 MMA, 5-3 UFC) at UFC Fight Night 87. Here are highlights:

On wanting to fight Overeem: “The most important thing right now is to face and beat Alistair Overeem … because from what I know, he asked this for this fight. He kind of put on the spot Greg Jackson and Mike Winklejohn.”

On his loss to Stipe Miocic: “I did some stupid, dumb things and mistakes when I fought Stipe Miocic, and he knocked me out really quick. I was one step away from a title shot, but now I have to start from the beginning, and I think it’s a good match for me. I had a great training camp, great sparring partners and great coaches.”

On if he thinks Overeem’s home country crowd could sway judges: “One hundred percent. (It was the same thing) when I fought ‘Bigfoot’ (Antonio Silva) in Brazil.”
