Belal Muhammad Thinks He Can Be Title Contender With Four Fights

June 27, 2016 | Posted by Joseph Lee

In an interview with MMA Junkie, Belal Muhammad (9-0 MMA, 0-0 UFC) said that he thinks he can become a title contender in the UFC within four fights. He will fight Alan Jouban (13-4 MMA, 4-2 UFC) at UFC Fight Night 90. It happens on July 7 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, streaming on UFC Fight Pass. Here are highlights:

On getting a title shot: “Once I get three wins in a row, I think I’ll be right there for a No. 1 contender spot. So probably like four wins and I’ll be looking to get a title shot. I’m not looking to fight Alan Jouban then move down. I want to move up the rankings right away and fight the top guys right away. So hopefully after this fight, if everything goes well, I’ll get a top-15 guy, then work my way up to top-10, then top-5.”

On wanting people to know who he is: “I know he’s a popular fighter, and that’s the reason I wanted to take the fight. I like that fight for my first fight because I know he’s a popular fighter, and if I go in and beat him, fans are going to want to know who I am right away. Then it can get me into the rankings right away. I’m not coming through the UFC to work my way up. I want to get in there quick, get in their rankings quicker.”

On why people will enjoy his fights: “Most of my fights, none of them are boring. I’m not a lay-and-pray guy. I’m not a take you down and hold you or push you against the fence and hold you type of guy. I’m bringing action the whole fight. I’ve fought some tough guys that are just hard to finish. I know if I just keep doing what I’m doing the finishes will come. I’m not going to force the action.”
