Bellator Featherweight Champion Daniel Straus Speaks on Recovering From His Injury

October 15, 2016 | Posted by Jeffrey Harris

MMAjunkie Radio recently interviewed Bellator featherweight champion Daniel Straus. Straus has recently been on the shelf due to an injury. Below are some highlights.

Straus on being out while champion: “For a while, it was like – I felt good that I had the belt. And then for a while, with being injured and having the belt, was uncomfortable. And then I got into a position of having the belt, coming back, being hurt – am I going to be hesitant? You know, it’s had all types of effects on me. But it is a good feeling – to know that when I come back, I’m at the top of the food chain. But in my mind, mentally I have a big hill to climb. It gives me the opportunity to keep showing people how good I am. Having the belt and having this time off has more been a blessing than anything.”

Straus on wanting to get back in the cage: “I really want to get back in there. I want to fight as soon as possible. But, my hand isn’t all the way – just because I got cleared doesn’t mean I’m ready to fight. I still need to strengthen my hand and whatnot. But I’m ready to fight whenever, if they give me a call tomorrow, I’m ready to go tomorrow.”

Straus on his next possible fight: “(Freire) thinks (the title shot is next), but he’s a little crazy, anyway. In my head, it would probably be either Weichel or him – but nothing’s been told to me. Weichel was waiting, I broke my hand, and I really think that’s going to be a fun one.”
