Brent Primus Happy to Fight at Bellator 141 After Long Layoff

August 28, 2015 | Posted by Jeremy Thomas

Brent Primus spoke with MMAjunkie about his fight with Derek Anderson at Bellator 141 and more. Check out the highlights:

On the layoff since his last fight: “I had a fight over a year ago and I had a little injury I had to take care of; that took about a month and a half, two months. Since then I’ve heard from my manager and people saying, ‘You’re fighting next month. Be ready for the next month. Oh the next month.’ I’ve been training my butt off since January expecting a fight. It’s been so frustrating, especially when I’m hearing, ‘You’re going to be on the next card 100 percent, go get ready.’ I’ve been in like five fight camps. It’s been difficult but I feel like I’m in crazy shape right now and I’m freaking ready.”

On training with Donald Cerrone and Paul Felder: “The biggest thing I learned about was just the mentality; when I have a fight I put the world on my shoulders – it’s everything – I’m ready to die in there. Going to train with ‘Cowboy’ and those guys was cool because we would train really hard, but every day we’d do something fun. We’d go snorkeling or rock climbing or horseback riding or boating. I trained at Greg Jackson’s gym. It was a great experience, the best of my career. I trained with ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone, Paul Felder, their boxing coach Rick Smith and my striking feels amazing right now. I feel like my stand up is just as good as my ground game. I can’t wait to show everything I’ve been working on and show my true potential. I don’t think anyone has seen the real Brent Primus before. I’ve got a lot to show.”

On his fight with Anderson: “I wouldn’t say I’m worried, but opponents are dangerous in their own way. He’s got good stand up and is a longer guy. I’ve just got to play my game and I’m really not worried about anything. I 100 percent feel like he’s not going to get out of the first round. He beat some of the top guys in Bellator and I feel like this is a really good opportunity for me to show where I’m at and that I can hang with the best guys in Bellator. I’m really excited they gave me a game opponent to show what I can do.”
