Cody Garbrandt Says Thomas Almeida Will Help Him Show Off His Skills

May 27, 2016 | Posted by Jeremy Thomas

Cody Garbrandt spoke wwith MMAjunkie about his fight with Thomas Almeida at UFC Fight Night 88 this weekend. The highlights are below:

On facing Almeida: “I’ve been excited for this fight, and my opponent having high skills, too, is only going to show my skills. I didn’t really have to show much of wrestling, much of my jiu-jitsu, much of my heart, much of my determination (in past fights). That’s a side people haven’t had to see in me, so if that has to come out and my skills have to go out the window, I’ve got my heart and it’s going to go for 25 minutes to get this win.”

On things getting heated with Almeida’s team this week: “There was some mean-mugging, and I like it. The Brazilian fans come out strong and they want to represent their dude. That’s what it is. It’s just a good matchup between two talented fighters, so it’s awesome – especially in fight week. But all the talk’s going to be done on Sunday.”

On realizing his dreams: “It’s amazing. I dreamed of these times ever since I first stepped inside of the cage as an amateur, all the way up to the pro ranks to be here in the UFC. These fights were in front of me but I worked hard and dedicated myself. And now we’re here, and it’s fight week. I’m enjoying it. I’m enjoying the moment, and I’m excited to go out and have a little fun on Sunday.”
