USA Today/MMAjunkie recently spoke to Cody Garbrandt, who revealed that Dominick Cruz turned down an opportunity for an immediate title rematch with him. Instead, Garbrandt is now set to defend his belt against former champion TJ Dillashaw after they coach the next season of The Ultimate Fighter. Below are some highlights.

Garbrandt on Dominick Cruz turning down an immediate rematch: “Yeah. He turned it down. He said he’ll wait. He’ll wait to see — TJ was crying, putting up $100,000 for the title shot. That’s fine. I’m happy fighting TJ. I’m content fighting TJ. TJ is not a good person. He’s kind of a generic version of Dominick Cruz.”

On why he was surprised Cruz didn’t push for the rematch: “If I go in there and talk a lot of (expletive) and the kid comes in there and beats me up like that, I’m at least going to try again because I have a fighter’s heart. And I don’t feel like Dominick does. I feel like I broke Dominick in that fight, and I actually don’t think Dominick will be the same. I’ve very content with fighting T.J. I’m happy to fight T.J. I want to fight T.J. He’s is not a good person. He’s not a good person, and he’s kind of a generic version of Dominick Cruz.”
