Cyborg Justino Isn’t Sure She’ll Do 140 Pounds Again

September 21, 2016 | Posted by Jeremy Thomas

Cyborg Justino spoke with MMAjunkie about her fight with Lina Lansberg at UFC Fight Night 95, her weight cut and more. Some highlights are below:

On her argument with her nutritionist George Lockhart: “I trust (Lockhart). This day I was really pissed off and stressed. That day I was really pissed off, so we gave him the opportunity to say why this is happening. Everybody fights, it’s normal in family. We’re cool now. We’re training together, and today he ran with me.”

On whether she’ll do 140 again: “My last fight, I did my last. Because it’s hard. But after the fight I looked at my boxing coach and said, ‘I want to fight again.’ And he’s like, ‘Cris, you’re crazy. One week before the fight you said you don’t want to fight in this weight anymore.’ It’s really hard to make 140, but I don’t know what to do after. I’ll leave it in the hands of the UFC. And I want to say thank you to (UFC President) Dana White for the opportunity to do a main event, but I leave it in his hands. And what he says I’ll do, and I just have to do and be ready.”

On if she gets tired being asked about weight: “It’s not just in interviews – all the time, in the morning George (Lockhart) texts me ‘What’s your weight?’ In the night, after training, ‘How’s the weight?’ I have my scale in my backpack. It’s annoying – girls don’t like scales. But now we’re friends. I see ‘her’ (the scale) all the time. It’s my job. I cannot hate the scale.”

On her mindset leading up to the fight: “Two days ago, I was really pissed off because of everything. And this is new for me, about the birth control. And then, just, I believe in George. We’ve been working together for almost three years. But sometimes you check your weight and you see something really different, and that was stressful, and I told him. But birth control holds a little bit of water. And it’s really hard when you train, train, train, and you check your weight and you see no change. This time I had the birth control, which is never happening again because I’m never using it again. And then it’ll be OK in the next fight.”

On Lansberg: “Lina is a good opponent. She’s had 60, 70 muay Thai, kickboxing fights together, and I think that’s a great opportunity for me. I’m a striker, I like standup, and she likes it, too. And I think it will be exciting for everybody to watch. For sure it will be TKO, something like this. I’m ready for five rounds. If she’s hoping I’m going to be tired – man, I ran so much for this camp. Let’s do this. I’ve trained for six rounds.”

On fighting a promotional newcomer in Lansberg: “I’m happy about this. I won’t tell you I’m happy now because I’m cutting weight. It’s hard. But I’m really happy for the opportunity and I’m very excited for this fight. I train so much. For me, to be here in the main event in Brazil in the UFC, I think it’s a winner. I think it’s important for my career because a lot of fighters want to be main event, and I have this opportunity. Lina is a great opponent. People don’t know much about her, maybe because she’s coming from muay Thai and kickboxing, but I think it will be an amazing fight.”
