Speaking to reporters in a media scrum this week (via MMAjunkie), UFC President Dana White addressed his recent comments where he said the planned middleweight title bout between champion Michael Bisping and former welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre is off. The UFC had previously hoped to book the fight around July. However, GSP recently revealed that he’d only be ready to take the fight after October. White then voiced on FOX Sports in Australia that the UFC was moving on from the match-up and would look to book a title bout between Bisping and top contender Yoel Romero instead.

White stated, “GSP and Bisping isn’t happening. GSP’s not going to be ready until November, and we’ve got to move on.” He added the fight between the two could still potentially happen depending on what happens with a Bisping Romero fight, adding, “… (But) if Bisping goes in and fights Yoel soon and wins the fight, then maybe we could do the (St-Pierre) fight. But if Bisping doesn’t win, I think St-Pierre goes to 170.”

Regarding his current relationship with the former UFC welterweight champion, White stated, “I’m fine with GSP. Yeah, we’re good.”

The UFC has not yet officially announced a date or venue for Bisping vs. Romero. According to White while speaking to the scrum, Bisping is currently filming a movie project, and then he plans to take care of some personal business in England. Whether this turns out to be a potential negotiating ploy by the UFC to put pressure on GSP, and if they will stick to moving on to the Romero vs. Bisping match-up, remains to be seen.
