Dana White Says Daniel Cormier Could Be Jon Jones’ Next Opponent

December 30, 2012 | Posted by Jeremy Thomas

Dana White spoke last night following UFC 155 about the closure of Strikeforce and several names that will be coming over to the UFC. Check out the highlights:

On Daniel Cormier: “[Cormier] is going to bring a lot of excitement to the heavyweight or light heavyweight division. And he could be next in line to fight (Jon) Jones.”

On Cormier possibly moving to light heavyweight now that teammate Cain Velasquez is heavyweight champion: “I have so much respect for both of those guys. They can go wherever they want. If they want to fight each other at heavy, I’m cool with that. If [Cormier] wants to go to 205, I’m cool with that. Either way.”

On signing Gilbert Melendez: “I talked to [Melendez] tonight, and he and I are going to get together soon. We’re going to talk about his future in the UFC.”

On Anthony Pettis potentially getting a title shot before Melendez: “Anthony Pettis, man, that guy’s been through some s—. He really has, and this is a big fight for him. I don’t want to go saying anything. We’ll see.”

On whether he’s had a chance to take a close look at Luke Rockhold: “I haven’t. We’ve got to sit down now and think about this whole Strikeforce transition, and we’ll go from there.”

On whether Nate Marquardt’s UFC return is likely: “Yeah, probably. I would have to say so…I was never in a bad way with him. I like Nate Marquardt. He’s one of the nicest guys ever. But you know how I get. I get bummed out when guys do stuff like that. You’re a professional. Show up here and do what you’re supposed to do.”

On how the final year of Strikeforce went: “What’s happened to those guys over in Strikeforce is terrible. It’s really bad what happened to them over there, and it makes me sick. I should probably sit down with all of them, but anybody that fought in Strikeforce, I apologize for everything that’s gone on over the last eight months, and I’m really disgusted by it. It’s disgusting what’s happened to those guys over the last eight months. It’s bulls—, and it won’t happen again. That s—‘s over now.”
