As previously reported, the UFC issued an announcement yesterday saying that the 26th season of The Ultimate Fighter would feature the creation of a new UFC women’s flyweight division (125 pounds), and the tournament would crown the first-ever UFC women’s flyweight champion. However, according to UFC President Dana White, that announcement by the UFC was premature. Speaking to Yahoo!, White said the decision for a new women’s division and championship in the UFC was not yet final.

White revealed that while the UFC is considering adding the new division to the UFC ranks, the final decision has not yet been rendered. Additionally, he said that the press release confirming the new division tournament and championship for this season was sent in error.

The Ultimate Fighter 26 is slated to start filming in July and would later air in September. The UFC currently has women’s divisions at featherweight (145 pounds), bantamweight (135 pounds), and strawweight (115 pounds).
