Dana White Speaks on UFC Expansion in Latin America
UFC President Dana White spoke today about UFC’s expansion plans to Latin America. White revealed that the company is planning an event in Puerto Rico, where they have not held an event since 1996. The UFC is also planning an international format version of The Ultimate Fighter for Mexico.
Regarding another event in Puerto Rico: “We’ll be there by 2014. We’re shooting for it.”
Regarding a January visit to Mexico for a Mexican version of The Ultimate Fighter: “That’s what we’re doing. We’re casting, and we’re working for ‘The Ultimate Fighter: Mexico.'”
About having to deal with getting a TV deal in Mexico: “The U.K. loves it, too, and we’ve had trouble getting a deal there, too. When you’re dealing with some of these countries where five families run all of Mexico – and in the U.K. there’s one powerful network there that you have to deal with – it’s just so crazy…We’re talking to everybody done there right now,” White said. “We’ll get this thing squared away and ‘The Ultimate Fighter’ running down there. Again, once we get the right deal, I know it will be big.”
Regarding India as the next territory in Asia they are focusing on: “We’re woking on India right now. Our event in China was a huge success, so we’re working really big deals over in China right now. China was really big. It was a homerun.”
