Dana White Thinks Super Fights With Anderson Silva vs. GSP and Anderson Silva vs. Jon Jones Could Still Happen
MMAjunkie reports that UFC president Dana White still thinks a super fight with Georges St. Pierre and Anderson Silva will happen at some point in the future, even if GSP defends the title against Nick Diaz first. He spoke with reporters at a media scrum following the pre-fight UFC on Fox 5 press conference in Seattle today:
Regarding Anderson Silva fighting both Jon Jones and GSP in the future: “The beauty is the greatest fighter in the world weighs 185 pounds, and he falls in between No. 2 and No. 3 best pound-for-pound in the world. He could fight either one of them. I think he’ll fight them both before his career is over.”
White on Anderson Silva being different in private despite statements he might put forth to the media: “Anderson Silva is a guy that likes to challenge himself, and I think he likes to f— with you guys, to be honest with you. I’ll read something, and I’ll be like, ‘What the f—? He said that?’ I think he just plays with you guys because the conversations we have behind the scenes are completely different then what’s said publicly. And when has Anderson Silva never stepped up to the plate and done what we’ve asked him or needed him to do…[Silva] came in on a month’s notice. You realize – I was thinking about this yesterday – this guy is 38 years old, right? Thirty-eight years old and still performing the level that he is.”
White talks about Bonnar’s reaction to his fight with Anderson Silva at UFC 153 and describes just how good Silva is: “Bonnar went the distance with Jon Jones, and he said to me after his fight with Anderson Silva, he was in total shock – not to mention the fact then we find out that he was on steroids. So he’s on steroids, he’s already the bigger, stronger guy. Anderson Silva had 36 days to prepare for that fight, and he f—ing annihilated him. So then after the fight, [Bonnar] says to me, ‘That guy lives in the matrix.’ That’s what he said. ‘Nobody has ever done that to me in my life. I’ve never had that done to me. I felt like I’ve never fought a day in my life when I went in there with this guy.’ Do you realize how f—ing good this guy is? That’s how good Anderson Silva is. I feel like the media and the fans don’t grasp it and don’t get it as much as I do.”
White on his belief that Silva will fight anybody and that he believes he can beat anybody: “He’ll fight anybody. He’ll fight anybody, and he knows he’ll win if he does. That’s how he talks behind closed doors.”
Anderson Silva also received a Bentley as a gift from the UFC for stepping up on short notice to fight in the main event at UFC 153.
