Daniel Weichel spoke with MMAjunkie about his fight with Emanuel Sanchez at Bellator 159 and more. Some highlights are below:

On not being willing to wait for Daniel Straus: “Straus’ situation with his hand was not cleared, and they wanted to set up the title fight for the early summer, but now they know it will take way longer for him to recover. After a good performance against Sanchez and a win, I think this puts me in the No. 1 spot. I recognize when they ask on social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram who they want to see against Straus, I see my name pop up many times. I think this is the fight that makes sense.”

On Sanchez: “He comes to fight. I think he’s a very tough guy, durable guy. In my mindset I want to be the champion, so I have to fight anybody in the division. At the end, it doesn’t matter too much who it is. I’m happy with the opponents they give me, and I’m active. He’s had close fights I know, but his style, he always keeps coming, and he doesn’t give you much of a break,” he continued. “I think this is one of his biggest strengths, so my goal will be to stop him and to be the first one to finish him.”

On who he faces after Sanchez: “I don’t want to wait too long, but I don’t want to look past this fight. The title is definitely the main goal, but for now it’s Sanchez. Then we go step by step. If Straus’ hand is not healing good, I’m fine with taking another fight. I don’t mind.”
