Darrion Caldwell Explains Why He Turned Down Bellator 144 Title Shot

October 9, 2015 | Posted by Jeremy Thomas

Darrion Caldwell spoke with MMAjunkie about turning down a short-notice fight with Marcus Galvao at Bellator 144 after Eduardo Dantas pulled out of the bout, a future title shot and more. Check out the highlights:

On turning down a short-notice fight with Marcus Galvao at Bellator 144: “That was a really hard decision (whether) I was going to jump in that fight quickly. I’m a pretty heavy 135-pounder, so I probably would have spent the whole time making weight. That’s not something you want to do when you’re fighting for a title. You want to focus on the camp. You want to focus on what you have to do to get better. It’s definitely a cool situation that they were thinking about me in terms of jumping up for this title fight, but it’s a little too soon. I know that Joe Warren, he’s next in line, but if Joe will let me beat up on Galvao first, then I’ll fight him after.”

On getting a potential shot at Galvao: “I want to fight Marcus, because he’s got the belt, and then fight Joe after I win that fight.”
