Dennis Siver Could Fight BJ Penn At UFC 196

February 5, 2016 | Posted by Joseph Lee

Bloody Elbow reports that according to Ariel Helwani of UFC Tonight, BJ Penn’s first fight out of retirement could be against Dennis Siver (22-11-1) at UFC 196. Penn (16-10-2) has already said he was fighting at the March 5th event, but an opponent hasn’t been named.

Both men would go into the fight with losing streaks. Penn’s last win prior to retirement was in November 2010. After three losses in a row (including a TKO to Frankie Edgar in his July 2014 featherweight debut), he announced his retirement. He was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2015 then announced last month that he was coming back. He has been training at Jackson-Winkeljohn in Albuquerque. Siver, meanwhile, has lost his last two fights and only won once in his last five fights. He lost to Conor McGregor (2nd round TKO) in Boston, then lost by decision to Tatsuya Kawajiri. His last win was a unanimous decision in Sweden against Charles Rosa.

UFC 196 already features featherweight champion Conor McGregor going after the lightweight title against champion Rafael dos Anjos. Meanwhile, women’s bantamweight champion Holly Holm will defend against Miesha Tate.
