FTC Closes Second Investigation Into Zuffa Over UFC Practices

November 24, 2015 | Posted by Jeremy Thomas

The FTC has closed a second investigation into UFC’s parent company. The Las Vegas Review Journal reports that the UFC’s legal council was notified that a nonpublic investigation had been concluded. No action is being taken at this time, although the FTC did not rule out further action.

Zuffia chief legal officer Kirk Hendrick told the site, “After meeting with the FTC, we are pleased that they have sent us a letter stating that no further action is warranted and the investigation is now closed. We maintain full confidence in our business practices and continue to believe that the plaintiffs’ allegations are meritless.”

The UFC and FTC did not respond to requests for comment right away. The investigation looked into whether the UFC engaged in unfair or deceptive business practices, which is a violation of Section 5 of the Federal Trade Commission Act. The company is facing a class-action lawsuit that claims they created a monopoly in the MMA industry.
