Gesias Cavalcante Wants Fights Every Month Fior the Rest of the Year

August 2, 2016 | Posted by Jeremy Thomas

Gesias Cavalcante spoke with MMAjunkie about his fight with Freddy Assuncao at Titan FC 40 and more. Some highlights are below:

On facing Assuncao: “I know the brothers. I know Freddie, I know Rafael, I know Junior. They’re good, cool guys. I have a lot of respect for them. When it comes to a fight, you’ve got to respect your opponent, but you’ve got to come and bang. That’s what we’re going to do. We’re going to get inside the cage and fight hard. Especially now, I’ll be defending the title and it will be my third fight this year. I’m finally consistently fighting. That was my goal, and now that I’m back there, I’m not going to drop this one.”

On coming back: “The thing is, I was always a beast. That didn’t change. The only thing was a problem with my health. I had injuries and I couldn’t fight consistently. If you see my career, I either had fights one after another or long layoffs. A lot of people don’t know, but before the Pat Healy fight I fought in Japan in April of this year. It was a good fight for me and right after the fight there was a big earthquake over there. … I just sent an e-mail today to update my record. I had one fight in Japan in April, I fought in June against Healy and got the title and I’m going to fight again in August. I want to fight in September, October, November and December. It wasn’t up to me that I didn’t fight for a year. I wasn’t getting fights and finally I got back with Titan FC and we got things straight and they gave me the fight. Now I’m fighting again and I’m happy. It was a good fight for me with Pat. It was my first fight and you only get one chance to make a first impression and I did great. It was really good for me.”
