Gian Villante Believes He Can Beat Daniel Cormier After UFC 200
MMAjunkie recently spoke to UFC fighter Gian Villante. Below are some highlights.
Villante on his confidence to beat Daniel Cormier: “I think I can go in there tomorrow and beat Cormier, especially the way he fought (at UFC 200). That (expletive) was ugly. Sorry. I really do think I could go in there tomorrow and beat Cormier. I think I hit hard enough. I can stop wrestling. I mean, what else does the guy do? He laid on the guy for 15 minutes – a guy who hasn’t trained and is 45 years old. I don’t know. I really think the division is wide open. It really is, and there’s a lot of guys in there within the top-30 that could be the champion. It’s just the right time on the right day.”
Villante on wanting fun fight: “The biggest thing for me is just to get guys that I’m going to have fun fights with. That’s what I think I’m here for. You can see I’m a fun guy. I have fun, and I want fun fights. I like to go in there and just brawl with a dude. Like my last fight, it wasn’t fun. The guy – 15 takedowns, I stopped 13. I lost the fight, but I can’t have a guy just keep shooting, shooting. It’s annoying. I want to go in there and brawl with a guy – at least be able to swing back with me and have some fun. To me, that what’s fun: getting hit and hitting someone. Maybe that’s a little weird, but that’s what I like.”
On a Steve Bosse fight: “I think that would be a fun fight. I think the fans would love it. Football vs. hockey. I don’t know. Something like that. I think that would be cool. … I think that’s something the fans would want to see. I think that’s something the UFC would want to see, so we’ll see. I mean, anyone what’s willing to go in there and trade with me. I know I’m a scary guy, but hey, I can get hit too. I just want to have fun in there.”
Villante on the type of fight he is looking for: “With the right opponents in front of me, knock ’em dead and go on to the next one. Maybe get a championship shot, and who knows what you can do on a short-notice fight, whatever. Look at (Michael) Bisping. Come on. Anything can happen in there. It’s pretty fun.”
