Graham Spencer Says He’s A Grappler In FIghts
In an interview with MMA Junkie, Graham Spencer (9-1) says that he will always be a grappler in fights, even with stand-up training with Duane “Bang” Ludwig. He will face Mukai Maromo (8-2) at Maximum Fighting Championship 36. The event happens tomorrow at the Shaw Conference Centre in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. They will fight for the vacant lightweight belt. Spencer won three years ago against Maromo by unanimous decision.
On being a grappler: “I’m always going to be a grappling-based fighter. That’s where I prefer to be in the fight; I prefer to be on top. That’s where you’re going to take the least damage possible.”
On his strategy: “If he leaves an opening for me, I’ll take it. He’s not invincible. He’s been dropped in his last few fights. If I see an opening, I’ll take it.”
On their last fight: “It was a long time ago. We’re both different fighters now, but I still think I’m going to win. It might give him a little bit more motivation, but I’m always super-motivated to win. I don’t need anything extra other than it’s a fight and I want to be the winner.”
