Ivan Buchinger To Replace Jim Alers At Cage Warriors 51
MMA Junkie reports that Ivan Buchinger (21-3) will replace Jim Alers (9-1) in a fight against Cage Warriors featherweight champion Conor McGregor (11-2) at Cage Warriors 51 after Alers suffered a hand injury.
The event takes place on December 31 at The Helix in Dublin, Ireland. The main card will stream live on MMA Junkie after preliminary fights on Facebook. McGregor and Buchinger will fight for the vacant 155-pound title. If McGregor wins, he’ll be the first Cage Warriors fighter to hold two titles at the same time.
McGregor is fighting in his home country for the show. After a loss to Joseph Duffy in 2010, he’s had seven wins in a row and six of those were by knockout. McGregor most recently defeated Dave Hill by submission to win the featherweight title, which he hopes will get him a UFC contract.
Buchinger has had a fight every other month on the European circuit. 18 of his 21 wins have been through stoppage with 12 by submission. He’s been on a 9-1 run, including a TKO win over Diego Gonzalez at a Cage Warriors event in May. His only defeat came to Anton Kuivanen (who later got a UFC deal).
