Jon Tuck On Last-Minute Opponent Switch at UFC Fight Night 87: “I Let It Go”

Jon Tuck spoke with MMAjunkie about his fight with Josh Emmett at UFC Fight Night 87. The highlights are below:

On having his opponent switch a week before the fight: “It sucks because you train a whole camp for some guy that you put your mind into, but you know, I’m sparring with everybody – high-level guys – whether it be standup or wrestling or whatever. It doesn’t matter. I’m training with the best.”

On finding out about the change: “I woke, what was it, like three days ago or something? I woke up, and I seen the fact that Nick Hein was injured. I was like, ‘Damn. Really? I trained the whole time for that.’ But I just had to switch my mind to focus it now and Josh Emmett. The only thing is fighting a southpaw to an orthodox guy, but yeah. I let it go.”

On now facing Emmett: “They just told me who the opponent was, and I’m like, ‘Hey, I’ll scrap anybody. It doesn’t matter,’ Things happen, and you’ve got to adjust. What if Nick Hein wasn’t southpaw, and I had to fight him orthodox? That could have been different…It doesn’t matter. A scrap is going to be a scrap. I train hard, and I train with so many different kind of styles that it’s not even going to play a big difference.”
