Jorge Masvidal Talks About Current Losing Streak

July 28, 2016 | Posted by Joseph Lee

In an interview with MMA Junkie, Ross Pearson (19-11 MMA, 11-8 UFC) said that five-round fights should be the norm in UFC, even in non-title fights He will fight Jorge Masvidal (29-11 MMA, 6-4 UFC) at UFC 201 this Saturday. Pearson is a replacement for Siyar Bahadurzada (22-6-1 MMA, 2-2 UFC). Here are highlights:

On his loss to Will Brooks: “I didn’t get beat up; I didn’t lose a fight. I just ran out of time.”

On the need for five rounds: “Going back to the judges and these three-round fights, it’s just hard to be like, ‘This guy clearly won the fight.’ Three rounds is a short time. I would like to see it go up to five rounds. It’s a lot more clear-cut over a long period of fight for a judge to score a fight.”

On fighting Masvidal: “He’s one of these fighters that once he gets on rhythm, he gets better. You shut him down, and he falls apart. It’s going to be an interesting first round. He’s an old-school street fighter, a tough guy from Florida. I’m an old school street fighter from the Northeast of England. So we’re going to clash heads. He’s going to hit me, I’m going to hit him, and we’re going to see who comes out ahead.”
