Joseph Benavidez Says He Won’t Ask For a Title Shot

February 4, 2013 | Posted by Jeremy Thomas

Joseph Benavidez recently spoke about his win over Ian McCall this weekend at UFC 156, a potential title shot and more. Check out the highlights:

On a potential title shot: “I’m not going to beg for a title shot. I’m not going to ask for one. I wouldn’t mind, of course. (But I’m) just improving. ‘Mighty Mouse’ went out there last time and beat me, and he’s beat the top three guys in the division. But give me a title shot, and I’m going to do everything in my power to go in there and take that, as well. Either way is good for me. But I’ll continue to improve. A fight with such a tough guy like ‘Uncle Creepy’ was awesome for me.”

On the win: “Yeah, I’m happy with (the win). Any time you go out and beat a tough guy, a top contender like Ian McCall, you’ve got to be happy. I really started feeling a lot better in the third and when the fight ended, I was like, ‘Dang!’ This was a fun fight and a good opponent, and I wish we could’ve gone a few more. I was really starting to feel good in the third.”

On looking for a knockout win: “It was good to be back in there, and I felt super-composed. I’m good with the win. I went out there and hit him with all I had, and gave him all I had, and he took it. It’s nice, and it’s always great to go out there and get the knockout – I rocked him early. But I grow more as a fighter going those second rounds and third rounds, and that’s what I’m trying to do. So it was perfect, man. I’m happy with the way things went.”
