Justin Lawrence spoke with MMAjunkie about his fight with Isao Kobayashi at Bellator 157 and more. Some excerpts are below:

On leaving his stepfather’s school early on: “I was literally spending more time in my car than training. I needed training partners that were going to put me in bad positions…You know what he said to me? ‘You need to go.’”

On training at San Diego’s Alliance MMA: “I have so much confidence right now because I did a whole camp with Jeremy [Stephens] and Dominick [Cruz]. I didn’t win every round, but I know this guy I’m fighting are not those guys.”

On Mark Northcutt reportedly not allowing Sage Northcutt to participate in a hard sparring session: “I feel like he possibly needs to get away from his dad. I don’t know him personally, but from what I’m reading, his dad does control a lot of what he does, and your son is going to have to get beat up a little bit here and there. That’s just the nature of the sport. Your son has to go get beat up a little bit. It’s just the nature of the sport. You have to. You have to get into bad positions to win. You saw what happened when he got into a bad position.”
