Leandro Issa Ready To Get Back To Winning At UFC Fight Night 93

August 31, 2016 | Posted by Joseph Lee

In an interview with MMA Junkie, Leandro Issa (13-5 MMA, 2-2 UFC) spoke about coming back to the Octagon after an August 2015 decision loss to Iuri Alcantara. He will fight Taylor Lapilus (10-2 MMA, 2-1 UFC) at UFC Fight Night 93. It happens Saturday at the Barclaycard Arena in Hamburg, Germany. It streams on UFC Fight Pass. Here are highlights:

On the loss to Alcantara: “I learned a lot from that fight (against Alcantara), from facing a ranked opponent. It was a good test for me. It didn’t work out as I’d hoped. It took some time for the UFC to call me back. I wasn’t injured. I spent that time training hard and improving in every facet. Now, this opportunity in Germany came up and I’m very focused. I can’t wait to fight.”

On his training: “Our training is very high quality, and we have a lot of people with whom to train. There are several fighters from Thailand, so I concentrated on my standup. But of course, I never stop working on my submissions and wrestling. I train every day and I’m extremely focused.”

On the advantage he has over Lapilus: “I believe that his ground game is not on the same level as mine. I’ve been working with several BJJ black belts at Evolve. Of course, I plan on striking, but in every fight I look to get it to the ground, where I do my best work. If I get the chance to get him to the ground, he’ll feel my pressure.”
