Marlon Vera spoke with MMAjunkie about his fight with Brad Pickett at UFC Fight Night 107. Some highlights are below:

On Pickett retiring after the fight: “At the end of the day, it’s a fight, and at the end of the day, what I want is to win the fight. I really don’t care much about what my opponent does or thinks. I just go in there and do my job because I’ve got to provide for my family. I’ve got to do my job. I want to start climbing in my division, so this is a good start for me. I want my winning streak in the UFC, so why not start with Pickett?”

On taking the short-notice fight: “It was a really easy decision. I was training the whole time since my last fight. I was ready to go. I was asking for a fight, so they called me and said, ‘Do you want to do it next week?’ I said, ‘I can do it today if you want.’ I’m confident in all the hard work I’ve been doing throughout the years, and I’m always in the gym trying to improve and trying to get better.”

On trying to put together a win streak: “The UFC, it’s a very hard company – you’ve got to win if you want to stay here. This is my dream since I was a kid I was always trying to be here. Now I’m here, and I’m ready to take on a big challenge in my life. When I think about how the fight’s going to go, I’m pretty confident I finish this fight. I just got to go and do my game plan and fight hard, and I’m pretty sure I can finish him. I’m 100 percent confident I can finish him.”
