Matt Brown Taking His Return Slowly After Concussion

September 14, 2016 | Posted by Joseph Lee

In an interview with MMA Junkie, Matt Brown (20-15 MMA, 13-9 UFC) said he’s taking his return to fighting slowly after suffering a concussion at UFC 201 in a TO loss to Jake Ellenberger (31-11 MMA, 9-8 UFC). Here are highlights:

On getting knocked out: “It’s the first time from a head shot that I’ve been dropped in my entire life, and I’ve sparred with heavyweights and big guys. I hope that I can speak near-full sentences when I’m done fighting.”

On still being motivated: “There’s still a lot of hunger in my heart. I’m still pressing toward the ultimate goal. I still, to this day, remember my motivation. I still remember what it’s like to go to a UFC and have that dream in my head.”

On being treated for first diagnosed concussion in 2015: “I had to sit in my room for 10 days with no lights, no loud noises, no TV, no reading. Like, literally stare at the wall and do nothing for 10 days, like jail. Now that I’ve been through that, I want to be extra careful.”
