Michael Johnson Speaks About a Potential Breakout 2012 for His MMA Career

December 29, 2012 | Posted by Jeffrey Harris

MMAjunkie Radio interviewed UFC lightweight fighter Michael Johnson. Johnson faces undefeated fighter and fellow TUF alum Myles Jury tonight at UFC 155. Here are the highlights:

On the prospect on going 4-0 this year with a win over Jury: “It would be quite a year for me. I’m excited for that.”

His reaction when he got hit hard early in his last fight with Danny Castillo and how he was able to recover and weather the storm: “I was like, ‘Damn, my eyes really went cross-eyed like that?’ That was ridiculous. Looking through that, I take back that I can actually take a punch. I’ve never been dropped in a fight in my whole career, and I fought through it. I’ve got to do whatever I can do not to let that happen again. I think that shows myself and the fans that I’m not just going to lay down if I get hit hard. I’m not going to lay down there and cover up like most people do after they get hit and they just give up. They’re going to have to get close to killing me in there for me to ever cover up or sit there and start taking punishment.”

Regarding wanting to fight again quickly: “They understood that I wanted to fight again, so they were like, ‘Hey, if you want to fight again, take this fight.’ So I was like, ‘OK, why not?’ He’s undefeated. It’s not a huge step up from Danny, obviously. I might be backtracking – you never know. But at the same time, this division is so stacked. He’s undefeated. He’s a guy in the division. I want to beat everybody in this division, so I want to fight whoever…I don’t want to rest. I want to fight. I want to get to that title. In order for me to do that, I need to start racking these wins up and get in there and get my name out. There’s no time for rest. Guys are sitting around not fighting, and I want to stay busy.”
