NSAC Suspends Diego Brandao For Nine Months For Drug Test Failure

May 25, 2016 | Posted by Joseph Lee

MMA Junkie reports that the Nevada State Athletic Commission has suspended Diego Brandao for nine months and fined him 30% of his UFC 195 purse. He tested positive for marijuana in a test conducted by the USADA. The suspension is retroactive to January 2, where he lost to Brian Ortega. He’ll be able to compete again on October 2. Before he gets a license, he’ll have to provide three clean drug tests (30, 15 and 3 days prior) and pay his $10,800 fine.

The suspension was voted unanimously by the NSAC during a hearing today in Las Vegas. The USADA also suspended Brandao for nine months. Brandao agreed to the punishment. He could cut it down by one month if he finishes an “anti-doping educational program.” The suspensions will run concurrently.
