Pat Berry Says He’s Not a Submission Fighter

December 14, 2012 | Posted by Jeremy Thomas

Pat Berry recently spoke with MMAjunkie about his fight with Shane Del Rosario at TUF 16 Finale tomorrow night and more. Check out the highlights:

On the self-admitted ‘ridiculous’ vow he made not to cut his hair before he submitted someone: “I’m not submitting anybody. I’m not. That’s just a fact. Not that I can’t. It’s just, what would you rather see: an armbar, or a high-kick knockout? Hardly anybody is going to say, ‘I’d rather see a guillotine than a lunging right-kick tornado where the guy’s head blows off.’ I know what I’m a fan of.”

On his bout with Del Rosario: “As a fan, this is the kind of fight I’d like to see. It’s two guys who are experienced and are going to sit there and try to outdo each other. He’s a complete fighter. But he was a kickboxer first. He’s obligated to have a kickboxing match with me. That’s a kickboxing code. Whoever goes for the takedown first loses. If he punches me in the head hard enough, though, I’m going to dive at him.”

On fighting for himself: “If you’re not fighting for yourself, you’re doing something wrong. If you’re fighting to please the crowd, it’s going to be really tough to do well in this sport. Of course, we’re all entertainers. If you do it for yourself with enough love and passion for yourself, the world is going to love that. But as soon as you try to control the situation, you’re going to fail at it. Then you have to keep up with it for the rest of your life, and you’re going to falter.”
