Ricardo Abreu Gets Two Year Ban After Failed Drug Test
MMA Junkie reports that the USADA has announced that middleweight Ricardo Abreu has been suspended for two years for failing an out-of-competition drug test. He tested positive for 19-norandrosterone (19-NA) and 19-noretiocholanolone, which are metabolites of banned anabolic steroids. They’re listed by WADA as “non-specified substances”. He failed the test on June 3.
According to officials, Abreu was above the “decision limit of 3 ng/mL” for 19-norandrosterone. It was connected to “andro” supplements, which contain the banned muscle-building hormone androstenedione. The suspension is retroactive to July 1, which is when he was put on temporary suspension after being told of a potential violation. It’s unknown if Abreu contests the finding. He hasn’t competed since a split-decision loss to Jake Collier at UFC Fight Night 88.
