Roy Jones Jr is Fan of MMA But Explains What Bothers Him About The Sport

– Roy Jones Jr recently spoke with mmajunkie.com, here are the highlights…

On The One Thing That Bothers Him About MMA: “Some people still don’t embrace it,” Jones said. “The only thing I dislike about the sport, myself, because I am a fan and like any type of fighting or combat sports – the only thing I don’t like is that when a guy goes down and he’s pretty much unconscious, the guy gets to jump down and hit him two or three times before they stop the fight. You shouldn’t be able to assault and unconscious man. That can cause real damage and somebody eventually will get pretty hurt up. Other than that, I understand how some people feel because there’s violence and it’s almost the same as, how does a guy go to jail for letting two dogs fight, but two men can fight and they can assault the other while he’s unconscious. Are dog lives more important than human lives now? That’s what people say. I understand where both sides are coming from, but the only part I see wrong with it is the assaulting of an unconscious man. That’s the only problem I have. Other than that, if two guys want to fight, why can’t they? If they want to fight like that, why can’t they?”

On If He Would Have Wanted to Do MMA: “If I was a kid, yes. I would have wanted to learn to wrestle and do everything at once. Had I needed to do that to prove I was the ultimate guy, I would do that. But because I waited so long I didn’t know. By the time I got to where I was, I had no wrestling skills. So it wasn’t something I would dabble in because I don’t feel like my ground game had enough time to get up to par.”
